Why does TomTom's current NavKit range of PNDs, Android, and iOS products have fewer features than its NAV2 products from 10 years ago?

  • The compass is a mildly helpful thing. However, if TomTom wanted a compass, then the better thing would be to have an option for a compass on the driving screen showing the direction of travel with the heading in degrees as a number underneath the compass. You know, like what TomTom products used to have nearly 20 years…
  • Hi @DougLap Doug to the rescue again! ;) Many thanks for the above advice. :) Whilst at home (and not driving, so the compass may not work very well until I start to move), zooming out until the Route Bar disappears allows the compass to temporarily appear for 30 seconds, after which the compass disappears, and the Route…
  • Hi @"Jürgen" , Where's the compass? I can't see it in either landscape or portrait orientations. Thanks, Robert.
  • Hi Tony, thanks for the confirmation. :) When you say ascending order, do you mean alphabetical (A - Z) of the name of the POI? For my POIs, I keep each category in an Excel spreadsheet .xlsx Masterfile, which contains the basics such as longitude, latitude, and POI name. In addition, I have details for the telephone…
  • Hi Tony, That's interesting that the TomTom GO Premium offers the same functionality as the GO 6200, presumable that is: navigate to POI, but doesn't show custom POI on map or navigation screens. Regards, Robert.
  • Hi @TonyS You're correct. Garmin does provide POI support; in fact, it offers directional POI with proximity support. That means you can add your own POIs to a .gpi file, and if you know where to get speed camera files, you can load them into another .gpi file that can give you directional alerts. I have used a Garmin…
  • Hi @DavidQPR, As an end-user, am I disappointed in the apparent lack of speed up until now that TomTom has applied features requested by users of its products? Yes, I am! I would hope that a company like TomTom would listen to users' requests for features and add those features as soon as possible, as feedback from their…
  • Any chance that the alternating journey time and distance can be modified so that both items are permanently displayed all the time?
  • @"Jürgen" is the data of restrictions (i.e. height, width, length, axles, weight, etc.) already in the map data we use? Whilst not a caravanner nor a camper, I often tow a trailer, so +1 for a caravan/camper/trailer profile on iOS. By the way, a caravan/camper/trailer profile was requested years ago.
  • Totally agree with @TonyS about custom (aka third party) POIs and POI categories. I have several POI categories such as Friends & Family; General; plus some holiday destinations. TomTom won't know my family or friends. My General category is a mix of things, and I have holiday categories for different places. My wife and I…
  • Apparently, there have been some bug fixes and some improvements! :D ;) I agree with @D-Stream, TomTom; please let your money paying customers know what has been changed/fixed in each update. While TomTom GO Navigation iOS is good (my preferred SatNav app), it isn't yet excellent and really does need extras that road…
  • Hi @lampard, I've now made a few motorway journeys, and I've seen that the complete information about the next turn shown in the Instruction panel is now given two miles before the junction instead of just one mile. Please thank everyone involved in this change as it is a very useful safety-related feature as it gives you…
  • Hi @JCDas, Premusably you're in a country that drives on the right (has the steering wheel typically on the left), so a left turn crosses over traffic, and a right turn doesn't cross traffic? BTW I'm in the UK, where the opposite is true. I believe that TomTom will weigh (or favour) a turn that doesn't cross traffic. So…
  • From the iOS App Store: • New default map style • Bug Fixes and improvements Sorry, but I can't see a significant difference in the maps apart from v3.0 being more 'green', so woods and rivers are harder to spot. The v2.8.3 iOS app was 191.8 MB, v3.0 is 230.3 MB and thus 20% larger this would indicate a lot more coding has…
  • Many years ago, back in 2010 IIRC, TomTom PNDs used Loquendo for TTS. This was back when the TomTom files were accessible to the user, and somebody found a solution for the pronunciation. I think mainly for UK road names/numbers. Could TomTom introduce an 'override' .txt file that users could edit, listing place names and…
  • @Knopper100, I don't know why TomTom has problems with POIs. On my travels, I create my POIs in a temporary group in POIViewer, and when I get home, I save them in the appropriate spreadsheet. I then extract the relevant data from the spreadsheet to a POI category which I then send to the POIViewer. I also download…
  • Hi @Knopper100, I run TomTom GO on an old iPhone 6s Plus that doesn't have a SIM card. My iPhone 12 is set as a Personal Hotspot so that the iPhone 6s Plus can still use data to find POIs. Admittedly this is in the UK where mobile phone signal is generally good, even in rural areas. Unfortunately, TomTom doesn't seem to…
  • Hi @lampard, Thanks for the reply. Is it possible for us to see the lists of improvement tickets? Regards,
  • I think that a change has been made to MyDrive, possibly in the last couple of weeks, because the following no longer works (the pointer doesn't show the POI name):…
  • Just keep looking in the Apple App store on a regular basis. Version 2.5 will appear as an update in the next couple of days.
  • Hi @Rare75016 I have an iPhone 6s Plus and have just upgraded to an iPhone 12 Pro. I use the 6s Plus as the SatNav (running TomTom Go) and it's connected to TomTom Traffic via hotspot to my iPhone 12 Pro. The set-up works well and gets traffic and is very similar to what you're hoping to do. By the way, I use the iPhone 6s…
  • Hi @"Jürgen", Many thanks for the update, I saw it in my iOS App Store update. The Search Panel including POI categories is a welcome improvement and is a nod back to previous generations of TomTom devices. Would you please ask the developers to add to the ability to add Custom POI categories via both .ov2 files and .csv…
  • Has anybody tried TomTom's iOS AmiGO? If so, does AmiGO heat up your iPhone as much as GO Mobile?
  • Hi @Alexmalyk, Do you still have the old iPhone? Google for software called iMazing which is available for both Windows and Mac. iMazing allows you to copy apps and data from your old iPhone to your new one. BTW, my iPhone is rather old (a 6s Plus) but it is currently running iOS 14.3 and the old TomTom nav apps v1.29 work…
  • Thanks, So previously you could have just one screen, i.e. the navigation screen? So now you can have multiple different screens. Does the Dashboard allow the route bar to be displayed in another screen window? Thanks,
