Anyone figured out how to connect a Rider550 the the PC
Could this device be more difficult to use. What on Earth are TomTom trying to do? Make it more and more difficult to use!
Just purchased and I am no amateur with a PC but this is ridiculous.
There must be a useful user guide somewhere...
Another couple of days and I think I will try and return this its next to useless for planning..
4 days - Not even put it on my bike yet..

You do not need to connect your Rider 550 to your computer to update.

Hi
@scsiAlan
Welcome to the site...
Download RIDER 50/500/550 User Manual...

The NAV5 (Wi-Fi) devices Like the Rider 550 normally update using Wi-Fi....
If Wi-Fi is not available or is slow/unstable/unreliable.....
See Option... (2) Connect over USB....
TomTom Video... Updating your navigation device using Wi-Fi
If you have successfully connected your device to your Wi-Fi....
To check your Connection Speed, Signal Strength & Quality
On the Device... Tap 4Dot (.... Menu) --> Settings --> Wi-Fi
Tap on Your WI-FI name (The one Showing as connected)
A new Menu Page opens
On the left-hand side of the screen is your Wi-Fi Connection Status
Tomtom recommends a minimum Wi-Fi download speed of 30Mbps
Tomtom NAV5 (Wi-Fi) devices will only connect to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
All the update actions are executed on the device...
___________________________
Option... (1) Connected Wi-Fi
Updating the device....
Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Updates & New Items
Extra Maps are Installed/Maintained....
Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Maps
I always update my devices one Update at a time
The NavCore Application and QuickFixGPS updates are force ticked by Tomtom... Deselect any other updates like Maps, Speed Cams etc... Update the mandatory item/s first, when complete update the remaining items one at a time
Note... NAV(5 Wi-Fi) devices connected over Wi-Fi do not require MyDrive Connect to be running Even if MyDrive is running you have no access the MyDrive Connect menu structures as used by the previous NAV3 & 4 devices
____________________________
Option... (2) Connected USB
If Wi-Fi is not available or is slow/unstable/unreliable.....
Tomtom recommends a minimum Wi-Fi download speed of 30Mbps
Connecting hard-wired over USB is normally more reliable than any Over The Air Connections
Updating your new device over USB will require "MyDrive Connect"
Get it here..... https://help.tomtom.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360013959499-Installing-MyDrive-Connect
There's no need to log in to MyDrive Connect... See Note... (1)
Connect your Device to a USB Port on your PC
The Update will hopefully complete
If you're using a Laptop, it would be also more advisable to use a hard-wire connection back from the Laptop to the Router....

Note... A new version of MyDrive Connect has been released.....
See.... https://discussions.tomtom.com/en/discussion/1130566/a-new-version-of-mydrive-connect-released
When using the latest MyDrive Connect, the menu flow has changed....
Now, when using the latest version of MyDrive connect to update a NAV5 (Wi-Fi) device over USB, it >> APPEARS << that you can update the device using the MyDrive Connect menu structure... When in fact this is >> NOT << the case....
Clicking on the update button only opens the new MyDrive Connect "Splash screen" saying "UPDATE DEVICE THE EASY WAY" etc...
The NAV5 (Wi-Fi) devices have no access to the MyDrive Menu structures as used by the previous NAV3 & 4 devices.....
___________________________
If you choose to update a NAV5 (Wi-Fi) device over USB....
MyDrive Connect only needs to run in the background on the PC Taskbar... You can close the 'Main Mydrive Window'
That is displaying "UPDATE DEVICE THE EASY WAY" Splash screen...
Updating a NAV5 (Wi-Fi) device... Even if you are updating using USB... The updating method is the same as using Wi-Fi....
All the update actions are executed on the device...
Tap the 4Dot (.... Menu) --> Setting --> Updates & New Items....
If a Operating System Software update (Navcore) is required... Deselect the remaining updates, install the Navcore update 1st....
The Navcore Software Update is Mandatory, you cannot deselect the update....
Then install the remaining updates....
I always install the update one at a time....
There's less chance of a log jam on the Server....
Extra Maps are Installed/Maintained... Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Maps

Hi
@scsiAlan
On the NAV4 & NAV5 Rider models you have direct access to the PC Filer system to transfer Tracks or Routes....
My Rider 550
The Rider 4/5xx will give you direct access to a small buffer/transfer area of the Rider 4/5xx Main Memory... You can also access your Micro SD Card, you can drag & drop your .ITN or .GPX route files directly to the Rider 4/5xx Memory buffer/transfer area or the Micro SD Memory card over a secure system
NavCore Version 15.302
Released on 3 July 2015
This update applies to the Rider4/5xx
With the "Easy route upload"... You can connect your TomTom Rider to your PC using a USB cable, then drag and drop your route files directly to and from your device’s memory using a file explorer program.....
(1)... Connect Your device via USB and this screen appears on the Rider 550
(2)... Tap the Import route Icon and the Rider 550 connects to the secure "Easy route upload"
(3)... On your PC filing system you should see "Tomtom Rider 550" where you can drag and drop your route files directly into the Rider 550 main memory or the Micro SD Card
(4)... If you haven't got a Memory card installed it only shows the Rider 550 Main memory
(5)... Drag & drop your route files to the device or the Memory card
(6)... When you're done tap "Done"
You can also use a Micro SD Card as a transfer medium

To transfer a route to your NAV4/5 device using a Micro SD Memory Card.....
Format your memory card on your PC to FAT32 format
Copy your .GPX or .ITN route file to your Memory Card
My GO 5000 showing no routes installed.....
Insert the SD Memory card into the Card Slot the device will recognize the Memory Card.....
Routes Transferred.....

? Thanks Willy 875 but I never mentioned anything about Updating ?
Thanks for trying to help YamFazMan I am very adept at using a PC and understand file structures but this is beyond frustrating.
I have saved a route but I can not get it off the device to my PC.
Tried multiple Memory Cards with no joy (including trying to format them via the device) but I also would not feel happy having to keep inserting and removing memory cards to save a route to my PC. Just a recipe for disaster at some point.

Yes, for exporting recorded tracks is room for improvement. Syncing routes as track to the Rider was a great improvement. Sadly exporting tracks was never updated on the Rider. Some car models with the same firmware have an option to automatic share the last 10 routes as track.
Personally I record my tracks with MRA directly in there Cloud.0 -
Any advice on memory cards I have tried 5 now none work.
3 new ones and a couple of old ones.

Have you formatted the Micro SDHC Memory card using the Tomtom proprietary format for Maps...
1st format the Card FAT32... Insert the memory Card the device... The device should sense the new card and offer to format the card using the Tomtom proprietary format...
Choose the Format option for Maps....

YamFazMan thanks for all your efforts, just a pity TomTom can't be bothered.
I suppose if your that big why care!
I have boxed it up to return it tomorrow.
My old Rider 4GD still works fine, I just get this problem when recording a journey. (see jpg)
At least I can transfer routes on and off my PC without any problems.
Cheers dude for all your effort and attention. Stay Safe Alan0
