It works with a memory card.
See: http://download.tomtom.com/open/manuals/start_42_52_62/html/en-gb/index.htm#Exportingtrackstoamemorycard-GO,START,TRUCKERandWings.htm
The cardslot you can find on this places:

For the export of tracks, a small micro SD card (1-2GB) is sufficient. If you eventually want to store navigation maps on it, then TomTom supports only cards up to 32 GB.

Do you mean recorded routes, that you have recorded on your device?
Are it routes with a dotted Arrow in front of the Routname?0 -
Yes that's right, routes I have recorded, showing under My Routes on the SatNav

Hi
Further to user Lochfrass post....
Using a Micro SD Card...
The example is transferring a Route to a Device, but you can transfer both ways
To transfer a route to your NAV4 device using a Micro SD Memory Card.....
Format your memory card on your PC to FAT32 format
Copy you .GPX or .ITN route file to your Memory Card
My GO 5000 showing no routes installed...
(It's The same method for my Rider 400 & 550)
Insert the SD Memory card into the Card Slot the device will recognize the Memory Card.....
Routes Transferred.....
