Street address navigation

Having previously successfully used the Navi system in countries around the world I purchased the Subaru Forester with the inbuilt TOMTOM system. I have found the inbuilt system not as user friendly as the earlier system. One particular grating issue is that there are many times when a specific street number is not available. At times you only have a corner address. The TOMTOM system will not recognize this. As for the verbal or spoken input, I find it hopeless in recognizing a spoken street address. Any advice on how I can make the system more user friendly would be greatly appreciated.
