Force to use majors roads

The Go app could be massively improved in my experience by having the option to "stay on major routes" that will prevent taking 'shortcut' routes to say cut off a corner between 2 major (A roads in the UK). Have I missed something in the routing options or does this not exist? I'm sure it would be a useful addition for many users.

Hi @RedSpecial62 , developers ask for specific example of route where this can be reproduced. It will greatly help us.

In the menu > Settings > Routing > Preferred route type, what type have you selected?

I have had the same experience. Route from Greoux-les-Bains to Manosque E. Leclerc (supermarket) in France. Preferred route: fast.
TT/AA directed me to Chemin des Embarrades. Which is a very narrow road with big holes in it. Ending in a steep climb with bad situation to turn back on the main road.

Sorry for Hijacking the thread, same problem here, no details.

I feel this has gotten worse since my last trip to France, pre Covid.
Also this doesn't feel like isolated incidents solvable by a map error report.

I just spent 4 weeks, mostly in France and some in Germany and on numerous occations I was lead into badly congested city centers or onto tiny streets and 30 zones or residential areas full of speedbumps. Until one instance when we were directed up a very steep barely two meters wide side street I actually followed the directions.
My wife then started to double check, with Googles Maps Nav, when the directions seemed strange, getting far better routes.

And yes, route type "fastest". No avoids.

Is the problem a lack of metadata about the road links? - so a tiny road with no speed limit metadata wins over a trunk road with a speedlimit? On some of the country roads we were sent along there was no way to safely reach the speed limit or stay close for long. Not unless I really wanted a divorce.

If there was a way to save the gps track and route we could easily provide steps-to-reproduce for these error reports instead of this type of whining. I'd really like to have the full routes I've travelled saved and a "man overboard"-button to press and save a position for reference.

And don't get me wrong, all in all I love Tomtom...
    Sorry about the rant...
