Blue & Me - how to update ? Are there any free updates

Hi we have just brought a camper home and it came with a Tom Tom device with the blue and me
Its telling me its up to date when the lady said she hasn’t updated it for years
Do i have to just pay for a update or would it be best to buy a new Tom Tom
If i buy a new one will it hook into the same blue and me system or would i need to somehow re do it all
