Do I need to pay VAT and customs duties?

Under the current situation, that is quite a difficult question!!
If you are buying from a UK VAT-Registered Company (i.e. you have already paid VAT at the time of Purchase), then delivery from an EU Country "should" NOT create problems - this assumes that the correct Customs Documentation has been completed & that HM Customs can confirm that UK VAT has been paid!
However, if it is from an European Company that has NOT CORRECTLY Registered for UK VAT (whether they have charged for it or NOT), will create problems!!
If the HM Customs believes that VAT has NOT been paid (or are unable to confirm the that VAT has been paid via a VAT Registered Company), then HM Customs will charge VAT (along with some Admin Charges) & insist that the Delivery Company/Courier collects these monies (along with Delivery Company Admin Charges) before they will deliver!
I'm currently in the situation (with another International Company - unrelated to TomTom), where they are are UK VAT Registered Company, but I believe that they did NOT complete the Customs Paperwork correctly - hence the Delivery Company is refusing to investigate the Fact that these Charges should NOT have been levied!
Basically, I would personally suggest that you wait until the GO Discover is in stock in a UK Shop (e.g. a certain well-known Car-Parts Company) & place your order via them!6 -
Hi, @clochy , I ordered my device on 12/01/21 and received it approx 3 weeks later, no customs or vat was owing, if I can find where I hid my paperwork I will post what it said, but the price I paid online was all that I paid with no hidden extra charges.0

Thanks skull66, I am sure the UK TomTom community will be relieved by your experience after having read horror stories in the media about having to pay extra on goods coming from abroad.1

please be aware I ordered tomtom go 6250 from their website and have today been sent a bill from UPS for £64.74 which they state needs to be paid before delivery can be made0

I’ve picked my satnav up from UPS today and i had to pay £83. Says nowhere about extra charges. I’d already emailed before but responded with what I’ve paid as my first question wasn’t answered. Not thrilled about it0

Normally no, you will not have to pay any additional costs, your best bet is to contact Tomtom customer service.
