Why does my Tomtom Smart 52 get very hot when plugged into the 12v socket on my car?

When I use my Tomtom start 52 in my car using the 12v socket it gets very hot. Any help appreciated

    Using the tomtom supplied cable to charge?check with customer care..

    Are you also using the Tomtom supplied Cable & Power Adapter ???

    Yes I am using the UBS cable & Power adapter as supplied with the satnav.
    This satnavn is plugged into a cigar/cigarette lighter socket wired direct to the battery in my classic car, 12v negative earth.Any help appreciated
