Must a TomTom 5200 have an external sim card?

Hi,
My TomTom 5200 has stopped connecting to Gprs and so I get no live traffic info when on the move.
Having looked through this forum it suggets that a sim card is needed. I have checked my defice and there is no sim in it. Should there be a card in the slot or is it optional?
Thanks,
Tom
PS All is fine when connected to the Internet (at home!)

Hi @TomGSurrey
The sim they are talking about is a mobile sim like in a phone and is inbuilt and has nothing to do with the slot you see on the bottom of the unit which is for an extra memory card.
Check to see if all your My Places, and any POI file s and Routes you have on the unit are backed up in your account on the My Drive Website and if so then try a factory reset.
Tap Menu
Tap Settings
Tap System
Tap Reset Device.
The unit will restart with all your data removed and you will have to input all the information you did when you first got it. The current Operating Software and Map versions on the unit will not be changed by this action.
If after doing the above and it does not connect when you take the unit outside well away from buildings and trees and your Wifi etc , create a route on it and leave it for up to 30 minutes plus to connect to the sats and the mobile system then contact customer support. They are very busy but if you persevere you should get through.

Thank you Doug,
I was sceptical, having seen others for whom this didn't work but for me it did!
It took quite a while to connect last night (don't know how long but after 45 mins - I went to bed) but this morning it connected fine, it disconnected when in WiFi range and then quickly reconnected when out of range.
Fingers crossed it continues to be as quick.
Thank you very much,
