Go Premium maps

I have managed to load uk and ROI without any trouble but as soon as I try to load a map larger then 4gb it keeps failing, I have plenty of room on the internal memory and have tried loading one on to a 16gb sd card and still getting failures, can anybody shed some light as to why I’m getting this problem, I only purchased the unit this Saturday so not off to a good start.

    Hi @Fedupyetagain

    Have you formatted the SD card on the Device for map?

    How much spare space have you got on the Internal memory. The unit will need at least 400mb if free space for operational purposes.

    Hi Doug, yes I’ve formatted the card (16GB) and I have 11.13GB of free space on the internal memory so I can’t see why I’m having the problems.

    Hi @Fedupyetagain

    Try taking the SD card out and then try and load a map.

    Hi,

    @Fedupyetagain It could also be your Internet speed which is too slow to download bigger maps.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Hi
    @Fedupyetagain

    The NAV5 (Wi-Fi) devices like you’re GO Premium normally update using Wi-Fi...

    TomTom Video... Updating your navigation device using Wi-Fi®

    If you have successfully connected your device to your Wi-Fi....
    To check your Connection Speed, Signal Strength & Quality
    On the Device... Tap 4Dot (.... Menu) --> Settings --> Wi-Fi
    Tap on the Your Wi-fi name (The one Showing as connected)
    A new Menu Page opens

    7g8gwfpx1swt.jpg
    On the left-hand side of the screen is your Wi-Fi Connection Status

    Tomtom recommend a minimum Wi-Fi download speed of 30Mbps
    Tomtom NAV5 (Wi-Fi) devices will only connect to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
    All the update actions are executed on the device...

    I always update my devices one Update at a time
    The NavCore Application and QuickFixGPS updates are force ticked by Tomtom... Deselect any other updates like Maps, Speed Cams etc... Update the mandatory item/s first, when complete update the remaining items one at a time

    Note... NAV(5 Wifi) devices connected over Wifi do not require MyDrive Connect to be running Even if myDrive is running you have no access the MyDrive Connect menu structures as used by the previous NAV3 & 4 devices

    Option... (2) Connected USB
    If Wi-Fi is not available or is slow/unstable/unreliable.....
    Tomtom recommend a minimum Wi-Fi download speed of 30Mbps
    Updating your new NAV5 (Wi-Fi) device over USB will require "MyDrive Connect"
    Get it here.....
    www.tomtom.com/getstarted
    Run MyDrive Connect.....
    Note... The NAV(5 Wifi) devices have no access the MyDrive Menu structures as used by the previous NAV3 & 4 devices
    Connect your Device to a USB Port on your PC
    Updating a NAV5 (Wi-Fi) device using USB is the same as using Wi-Fi, all of the update actions are executed on the device...
    Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Updates & New Items
    Extra Maps are Installed/Maintained... Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Maps
    __________________________

    Note... MyDrive Connect will only show a "Splash screen" saying "Connect your device using Wifi" etc
    If required you can close the 'Main Mydrive Window' showing the "Connect your device using Wifi" Splash screen... MyDrive Connect only needs to run in the background on the PC TaskBar

    I’ve tried all the above suggestion but still no luck. My internet is 70mb download speed so there shouldn’t be a problem on that front. I’ve tried downloading Europe 8.8GB size map I will try a smaller various of it to see what happens, but I should be able to download any size map without this hassle. Thanks for your suggestions if you have any other I would be most grateful.

    Hi
    @Fedupyetagain

    Is your Wi-Fi connection from the GO Premium direct to the Router or via a Laptop --> Router

    If you are using a Laptop is it Hard wired back to the Router

    If you are using a Laptop is it running of a Mains adapter (The Best) or the internal Battery

    Random Disconnects on Surface Pro 3 & 4
    Do you have or have access to a 'Surface Dock', if so plug your device into a USB port on that. Others have found that to work
    On the Win10 tablets, Microsoft has hidden the "USB Selective Suspend" menu
    You will need to edit the Registry for the USB Selective Suspend menu to show

    Laptop users also see Note (1) & (2)
    Note... (1) My Linx 10/10 Win10 Tablet is exactly the same... I had to edit the Registry to activate the advanced setting in the Power Menu
    Note...(2) Recently a User with a Dell XPS 9360 Laptop also exactly the same problem ... he also had to edit the Registry to activate the advanced setting in the Power Menu

    Thanks for your help YamFazMan but still not working. My laptop is running on mains power and is hard wired to my router. USB ports are constantly powered. Now I can download some small maps without a problem but as I try to down load anything larger it’s starts to down load gets to about 9-12% the download screen goes back to zero and then comes up with update failed. I use to have a Go 5000 before having this one so I’m wondering even though I have deleted it from my account is it coursing an issues as I’ve used the same details to add new one to my account.

    Hi
    @Fedupyetagain

    On the rare occasions I have a problem with myDrive Connect
    I Delete MyDrive Connect using the free version of Revo Uninstaller
    If you're using a Windows PC... Delete MyDrive Connect using the free version of Revo Uninstaller
    If you're using a Mac... Surely there must be a Deep Clean Un-installer Program available for a Mac ???
    Download & install the free version of Revo Uninstaller
    Here...https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html
    Revo first uninstalls the Program... Then scans and removes all of the left over files a normal uninstall leaves behind
    Video using the Revo Uninstaller
    The Free & Pro Versions use the same process....

    (1)... Uninstall MyDrive Connect Using the Revo Uninstaller
    (2)... Clear your browsers cache (Optional, but I find it helps)
    (3)... Restart your PC (Not Turn Off & Turn On again)
    Reinstall MyDrive Connnect (Important... Without your device connected)
    Connect & Turn on your device... Login to MyDrive Connect

    Thanks again with your suggestions, I’ve called support this evening and was told that my internet connection isn’t stable and my connection fluctuate up and down as he could see whilst trying to download map. I’m going to turn everything off that is connected to my net work and see what happen, though I do find it strange as everything else works fine.

    Just an update, it would seem my internet connection does indeed fluctuate so I’ve turned a few thing off and I nearly downloaded a large map until my daughter put her PlayStation on and then fail appeared on the screen so I’ll have a go later on and switch everything off from internet apart from what I need to use to download map.

    Thanks again to everyone with there help it is much appreciate.

    Finally sorted out problem. I have a Virgin media hub which I use as a modem and I have that plugged into a Asus router. It would seem for some reason the Asus router was coursing my connection to fluctuate so I went back to using my Virgin media super hub and I down loaded my maps without any problems.
