Avoid Motorway Option Missing

raesewellraesewell Posts: 132 [Supreme Navigator]
I have recently been sent a new Rider 550 after my previous one could not be repaired after having water ingress problems. I had to contact customer services to get my lifetime subscription reinstated but now I realise I don't have the "Avoid Motorways" option in my route types.

Just to clarify, these are the route options I have
    Fastest route
    Shortest route
    Most Eco-friendly route
    Winding route
    Walking route
    Bicycle route

Sod's law dictates that the one that I use most
    Avoid motorways
    Is missing

    Any help appreciated

Earlier today in the process of getting my Lifetime subscriptions reinstated I performed two factory resets and a drumroll reset so please omit these as a suggestion.

They have just done a big update and now that option has been removed (why I dont know as I use it all the time) you have to go in to settings and select non motorway as an option. Silly as I switch between modes depending on the trip I am doing. Sellect ? off the main new and there is a new Whats new option, details are under there

Thank you, I knew that avoid Motorways on all journeys option was available but like yourself I flip flop between Fastest and Avoid Motorways. Another backwards step from Tomtom.

I have just downloaded the latest user manual for the 550 and it still shows the Avoid motorways option as copied from the manual below

The types of route you can choose from are as follows:
 Fastest route - the route which takes the least time.
 Shortest route - the shortest distance between the locations you set. This may not be the quickest route, especially if the shortest route is through a town or city.
 Most eco-friendly route - the most fuel-efficient route for your journey.
 Winding route - the route with the most turns.
Note: Winding route is not available on all TomTom navigation devices or apps.
 Avoid motorways - this type of route avoids all motorways.
 Walking route - a route designed for making the journey on foot.
 Bicycle route - a route designed for making the journey on a bicycle.

I feel sure this is an oversight from Tomtom.
So please Tomtom techies please reinstate the Avoid Motorway option as a matter of urgency.

    Hi
    @raesewell

The Avoid Motorways option was moved in the last update...
Plan & Calculate your Route -->
Tap 4Dot (....) Menu --> 'Current Route' --> 'Avoid Road Types' --> Select... 'Avoid Motorways'

I am glad others feel the same, I cannot see any reason why they have removed this option, I hope TomTom can reinstate this options, how do others feel on this?

    Hi
    @raesewell

I think the idea is now they have added Tunnels & Country Borders to the list, is to have all the 'Avoids' listed in one Menu....

    To Always 'Avoid' Motorways etc....
    Tap 4Dot (.... Menu) --> Setting --> Route Planning
Scroll all the way down to sub menu 'Route planning'
    Turn off 'Motorways'

To Avoid' Motorways etc... On a Route by Route basis....
Plan & Calculate your Route -->
Tap 4Dot (....) Menu --> 'Current Route' --> 'Avoid Road Types' --> Select... 'Avoid Motorways'

I see the point but it's one extra step, you have to OK it after choosing.
The user manual need updating too. It would also be a good idea to detail the changes so that us long time users can keep up to date with the latest software.

I do not see the problem.

At Menu -> Settings -> Route Planing -> in the "Avoid on every route" section you can find "Motorways" just like "Toll roads", "Unpaved roads" and many more avoid options.

You only have to set this once to get this setting as default.

It is not unusual to change from Motorway to non motorway whilst on route.
The old system was a couple of touches the new system requires confirmation at each step. That old chap is the problem.

Even a better option is to implement it as before on the old NAV2 devices. So an extra option on start planning a route "Ask me when I plan" instead of taking always the fastest as default.

I can live with the new system but the old one was easier and more convenient.

The earlier Devices required me to enter my Route type every time, but at least 98% of my journeys I would choose the Fastest Route

The earlier NAV2/3 devices are Menu focused
Asking all of the questions and button pushing at the start... Then device planned the route

The Latest NAV4/5 (Wi-Fi) devices are Map Centric (Tomtom Speak)
The Route planning has the highest priority (98% of the time I want the Fastest Route... Job Done)
On the odd occasions I want something different, say I want to 'Avoid Motorways'...
After Planning and Calculating the route
I Tap the 4Dot (....) Menu --> Current Route --> Change route type... Choose Route Type required 'Like' (Avoid Motorways) the device recalculates the route avoiding Motorways
