Waypoints and Stops with GO 6100

I use a GO 6100 and am planning a two week trip in Sicily setting up one route per day. I am confused about the difference between waypoints and Stops and would appreciate some guidance. I plan my routes using TomTom Mydrive connect on a windows PC and then download to my GPS. I can see no difference between a waypoint and a stop on my PC, both have the same little flag along side them and both are described as waypoints in the route directions. So far I design a route by having a starting point and then creating an end point. I then save this and go back and edit it. I do this because I found that if I enter a starting point and then more than one additional point my ability to save it a a route disappears! So I go back and add the additional towns/places we intend to visit that day and reorder them. Because I have no idea if these intermediate towns are considered stops, I also add a stop in each particular town which means that I have two numbers on the map superimposed on each intermediate town itemised on the route. I have no idea either if I have added the stop in right place. It all seems somewhat complicated and imprecise to me but I can find nowhere that TomTom actually explains the process and their video doesn't seem to cover this at all.
Any and all assistance to get me pointeed in the right direction is very much appreciated.

All waypoints that you add on mydrive web when transferred to the tomtom are treaded as a stop.1

Thank you. That is very helpful. I created a short test route on Mydrive, downloaded with to my device and drove it. It worked perfectly, showed the stops etc. Howvever, when i tried it a second time I found that TT without my doing anything seems to have converted it to a track and therefore no stops show and there is no inidication any more when I arrive at a stop. Can you think why that might have happened and how I get it back to being a route again? It still shows in MyRoutes on my device.0

Hi
@Andrew42
The later/latest NAV4 & NAV5 (Wi-Fi) have less Stop/Waypoint options for a .ITN Route compared to the NAV2 Devices on as NAV4/5 device a Stop is a Stop you have to pass through it....
Wikipedia .ITN (Showing the full set of .ITN Stop options)
See... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itinerary_file
An .ITN Route will will respond to Live Traffic and any route deviations BUT an .ITN route will doggedly follow the stops in the order they were created, if you miss a stop, the device will continuously attempt to guide you to the missed stop... You have to cancel the problem stop on the device to avoid it
Maybe Useful....
If you use the Save & Sync option on the MyDrive Web Route Planner
Here... https://mydrive.tomtom.com
The Save & Sync option save a .GPX Track... its basicly a bread crumb track that you follow
A Route planned directly on the device is a .ITN Route, a .ITN Route uses Stops and the device plans the route between the stops... An .ITN Route will will respond to Live Traffic and any route deviations BUT an .ITN route will doggedly follow the stops in the order they were created, if you miss a stop, the device will continuously attempt to guide you to the missed stop... You have to cancel the problem stop on the device to avoid it
Using a .ITN Route planned on the MDW Route planner...
The latest version of MyDrive Web Route planner now uses 'Send Destination' or 'Send Stops' to send an .ITN Route
The MyDrive Web Route planner only sends the route to the device as a Destination... Or if you add Stops it send it as a Route (But it's is not automatically saved in MyRoutes)
If you are using .ITN route and 'Send Stops' see my workaround below
Complex Muti Stop .ITN Route Rider 400
Be Aware....
If your starting point IS NOT your present location there's a BUG
When using the 'Send Stops' option, during an "A" to "B" route transfer where 'A' IS NOT your present location... The device drops Location "A"
This bug also applies also to Multi-Stop/Waypoint routes... 'A' to 'B' to 'C' to' D' to 'E' etc...

This is the workaround method I use....
The Tomtom MyDrive Web Route Planner....
Get it Here... https://mydrive.tomtom.com
(1).... Plan my Route with the MyDrive Web Route planner (With or Without Stops as required)
(2)... Zoom in... Place a Sacrificial stop close to the Start Icon
(4)... Choose the 'Send Stops' option... The route will sync to your device
(5)... The device will calculate your route from your 'Present location'
(5.1)... The device will calculate your route using Stops in the order that you placed the Stops in the route
(5.2)... If the planned Start of the Route is your 'Present location'... Then skip Bullet-point... (6)
(6)...When the route has calculated, Pinch zoom to the correct start of your Route (The Sacrificial Stop Icon) 'Long Tap' (Tap and hold for +1 second) on the Sacrificial Stop Icon --> A quick menu opens --> Tap the 3Dot icon --> Choose 'Use as a Starting Point'
The device will calculate your route from your new location
(7)... Saving the Route
'Quick Tap' anywhere on the Route --> A quick menu opens --> Tap the 3Dot icon --> Manage route --> Add to my Routes.... Edit the route name as required or simply Tap Add
_____________________________________
Note... (1) A 'Quick Tap' and 'Long Tap' of the screen gives different menu options
Note... (2) The MyDrive Web Route planner will sync a route with a Max of 20 stops

Thank you @YamFazMan. That is a lot of information to assimilate. At the moment I have two questions:
1. Can you suggest why my TT device suddenly changed a perfectly good route to a Track and waht I should do about it.
2. You seem to be suggesting that it is better to plan and save routes on the device rather than on Mydrive on a PC. Am i understanding you correctly?0 -
Now that I've spent an hour or two creating some routes for Sicily on my device so they have solid not dotted lines I find they are not syncing back to Mydrive. Am I missing something or is TT just not very easy to manipulate?0

Hi @Andrew42
Routes created on the device do not sync back to My Drive. The solution until that is enabled is to Use a small Micro SD Card formatted for Routes and export them from my Drive and then import them into My Drive.
Now to achieve this you need a map on the internal memory. If you have not got one then Choose a small map to add to the device then it will be loaded on the internal memory and you should keep it there to help you avoid the No Maps situation.

Thank you so much for explaining that to me. I was worried I was doing something wrong. TT clearly can't think this aspect is worth their while. I can't create a route on my PC and copy it to my device without it chaningin from a route to a track and I can't create a route on my device and back it up to my account on TT. I can't do what you suggest because although I have a large SD on my device I don't have an external reader to attach to my PC. I only have an SD because TT sold me a world wide machine with lifetime world maps but with so little excess capacity that almost immediately I had to drop most of the world as their maps got so large. Later I had to buy an SD just to keep all of Europe.
The good thing that is coming out of this is that I have learned how to create a route on the device so that whilst I'm in Sicily without my PC i can reprogramme my routes on a daily basis if our plans change. Thank you again for your help. Excuse my rant!1
