Is the built-in SIM in GO Premium as reliable as wifi via smartphone? Does LiveTraffic work as expected with only the device connected to wifi (and no smartphone)? Does it work all over europe? Are there any drawbacks? (Planning to upgrade...)

Hi
@AmiBo
My iPhone 5s is connected using GiffGaff (O2)... In the UK
The Phone is usually connected over Bluetooth to the Tomtom Devices
But you can connect to Tomtom Live Traffic using a Wi-Fi Hotspot on the Phone or using a Mi-Fi device
I find the Tomrom built-in SIM gives a better Live Traffic coverage in the UK than when I use my iPhone 5s and my GO 620 for Traffic
PS...The GO 6200 & GO Premium have the same hardware and both have a built-in SIM Card.... So unless you require the extra software options available on the GO Premium the GO 6200 is still worth consideration

Hi @AmiBo
I have the GO Camper and a GO5200 both of which have the Inbuilt Mobile Sim. I always rely on the the Sim for traffic and I have used it from UK to Spain and across to Switzerland and all worked very well.
I have had one experience of no Traffic with the Sim when there was a problem with the system for a few hours and non of the sims could connect to get the Tomtom servers for Traffic data. Now this would be a problem with our old GO5000 as it has no ability to be connected to a wifi signal or a phone. The problem occurred when we were in the Bournemouth area where there were some major road works and coincided with the Rush hour and a Premier League football match involving Man United. There was traffic chaos however I have a Mifi which I turned on and logged the GO Camper on to and immediately the Traffic system started and we were helped around the problem pretty well. The current Wifi models have this backup system via a Mifi or a Hotspot which can help sort things out on the rare occasion that traffic was not available by the normal Inbuilt Sim system.

Just to add to YamFazMan's comments, you may have encountered to posts here bemoaning the fact that the built-in SIMs only operate on the 2G network.
However in terms of coverage, 2G is the best out of all of the Gs, and is covered throughout Europe.
2G is the worst for speed, but the amount of data requiring to be transmitted for traffic is very small.3 -
