Sorry for the delay getting back to you . Regrettably I suspect you may be being affected by the Bug the Start 42/52/62 models have.
Unfortunately these models only have the Step by Step Search method whereas all the other models also have what is called the Quick Search method. available. The Step By Step cannot find a Postcode without you inputting a Road name when asked. Firstly you have to know the name of the road where you ar looking for and secondly in some rural areas there are no names.
I regret there is no solution for this and so far Tomtom have not issued an update that provides you with the option to select the Quick Search option which goes straight to the position that the Postcode relates to.

Its on the Tomtom GO Navigation App and my GO5200. You do not have the gap when you enter it. ie enter CF838YE

no gap in the postcode when entered i tried it 5 times and postcode wasnt recognised

Both the App and my GO5200 and the GO Camper I have since tried it on all pick the same spot in line with the position shown on Google Earth.
What model unit and what map are you using.

according to google maps and the post office postcode finder the postcode cf838ye should be newport road just above the unnamed road you get
