TomTom Australia iOS app not allowing me to redeem free upgrade

My TomTom Australia IOS app is not allowing me to redeem the free 3 year subscription to the upgrade TomTom Go app.
When I follow the instructions I get the following message: "Adding your purchase to your TomTom account failed. You can try again now. Or it will be retried next time you open this app."
This has happened multiple times now. From other questions it looks as if my original IOS app purchase was not attached to my account so the subscription can't be transferred over?
Does anyone have any advice on how to resolve this error?
