How do offline maps navigate if data roaming is turned off?

Hi - I'm going abroad (Turkey) shortly and want to use my Android GO app with data roaming turned off. It seems to me that this should work but I wonder how that can be the case? Can anyone confirm if it will work OK - I really don't fancy paying O2 £4.99 per day!

Yes, it works fine because the road maps are stored inside the phone and the GPS signals used for determining location do not use cell network data. Without network data you will not benefit from any traffic and speed camera information but the basic navigation functions of map display and spoken turn guidance will play normally.6
