Can I simply remove one card to install another?

I have GO5000 with a 1GB additional memory card which is partly used. I now want to install (temporarily) an additional map which will take more space than is available. Can I simply remove the 1GB card and install a larger one, or will removing the existing card (I'm not sure what's on it) make my device unbootable?

    Hi @JBit

If you have not got a map on the internal memory then the unit will not Start up properly and so you must have a map on the extra memory card. if it is starting okay now.. I assume however that as the extra memory card is only 1gb you are likely to be ok.

Take the 1gb card out but do nothing with it in case you have to reinstall it. If the unit starts up okay then before you do anything else insert the new card , 16gb or 32gb recommended, and format it in the unit for maps.

If the unit does not start without the card come back here for more info.

The Map size exceeding the on-board Memory size on the NAV4 devices is an unfortunate, but real Catch22 situation....
For the larger Maps like the Full Europe map you need to install a Micro SDHC memory card
The Map cannot be split across the on-board Memory and a Micro SDHC Card...The latest Full Europe Map is 8.9GB so a 8GB Memory Card is useless a 16GB or 32GB is required (32GB is the Max size Micro SDHC Card for a Tomtom device)

Maybe @VikramK or @lampard the Forum Moderators will allocate a smaller Map to your Account
The advantage of the small Map would be plenty of working space on the device and the smaller map will also act as a 'Keeper'... This will enable the device to keep running on the smaller Map and avoid the Catch22 situation No Maps Found Error, where the device won't boot-up past the No Maps Found Error to allow access to the 'Format option' to allow the use of a 16GB or 32GB Micro SDHC memory card
Also if you ever need to remove the Micro SDHC Card for any reason... Like transferring pre-planned routes via a Micro SDHC Card or Formatting a new/replacement Micro SDHC Card, the Keeper Map will allow the device to keep running

    Hi @JBit

I see there are two GO 5000 devices linked to your account.

Could you send me the serial number of the device in question here(through a private message)

    Vikram :)
