Clock issue with old one XL

So here's what happens. When I first turn it on and before it's connected to the satellites, the clock is correct the correct time is displayed. As soon as it connects to the satellites however, the clock resets to 12 a.m. . even if I change the time again to the correct time or synchronize with my Bluetooth it still says 12 am. Why is it doing this? Is TomTom trying to force me to purchase a new device?
