How do I navigate to a postcode where there are no recognised roads? The keypad comes up asking for a road name and will not go even if you type in "unknown road". The "Drive" icon does not appear.
Not sure with the Start 42 but if you do the following and cannot Select Quick Search then you cannot get around the problem. Quick Search solves this known Bug in Step By Step search.
Tap Menu
Tap Settings
Tap System
If you get the option Choose a Search mode Tap on it to Change to Quick Search. A few Tomtom units do not have the option to change the search mode.
This is a long standing problem....
The Postcode code search bug when using the latest Start devices is a real pain
Any search for a Postcode... You have to enter a road/street name to execute a search ??? Why....
If you know the road/street name and a house number you don't need the Postcode
Most people use a Postcode because they don't know the road/street name and house number
Isolated farms, Single building, Office blocks, Retail parks, Hospitals, New builds etc...
For me it renders the latest Start device useless in the UK
It's only the latest Start 42/52/62 Range that has this particular Step by Step search method
All of the previous NAV4 Models and the remaining Models in the NAV5 Range... The Via and GO Range have both the "Quick search" and "Step by Step search" as menu options
Tap 4Dot (.... Menu) --> Settings --> System --> Choose a search mode
(1).... Quick Search (Default)
(2)... Step by Step
The only thing I can suggest is that you go onto the Mapcode Website and find a Mapcode for the Post Code address that you are having trouble with. Then if you enter the the Mapcode on your Start 42 the same as you enter Post Codes then see if that works.
Mapcodes are accurate enough to nearly specify a Parking spot in a Car Park. So if that works, if you have a Smart Phone, download the Free Mapcode App and use that when you have a problem. In the case of Rural Post Codes they can be a long way from the actual address you are looking for. With the Mapcode App you can view the result on a Satellite (Hybrid) view map, like Google Earth, and move that around to get a precise point and get the code for it.
If Mapcodes works on then Start 42 then if you type in the Code DH.FX it will route you to the middle gate of Buckingham Palace.
