Purchasing a TomTom

I am looking at purchasing a SatNav for a trip to Florida. I have identified the TomTom Start 42, however I have no way of confirming if this will be compatible with the map update without first buying it and confirming the serial number.

Is there another way to confirm if a TomTom device is compatible before buying the device?

    A Start 42 will have one of the following as the beginning of the serial number: 'XS'; 'XT'; 'XW' or 'XY'

    "XT">START 42, 8GB + micro-SDHC, MyDrive Connect NAV4
    "XW">START 42, 16GB + micro-SDHC, MyDrive Connect NAV4
    "XY">START 42, 16GB + micro-SDHC, MyDrive Connect NAV4

    Strangely, the 'XY' does NOT show as compatible with the map in the link you provided in your post. The other three seem ok.

    I have no idea of the difference between the first two or the difference between the second two models.

    You didn't provide a country when you created a profile here but, if in the UK, call support when open. Maybe they can clarify:
