Lifetime map updates

Dear sirs:
I bough in good faith an TOMTOM XL GPS with a lifetime
map updates. My GPS is still operation in 100% condition.
Yet I cannot update as I get messages from TomTom that the life of my GPS is over. How can this be when it’s operating just fine. What is life? Isn’t it until the unit isn’t working anymore or until you decide when it’s over? If it’s when you decide it should be indicated in plain print in or on the user guide. At least I would have known in advance and could have decided whether I should buy it or not.
I would like to update my unit. Could you please allow me to update it at least one more time then after that I would have time to decide whether I want to buy another one from you or not.
This would only be the least you could do for me.

    Tomtom EOL (End of Life)
    Tomtom have already stated that Lifetime Maps and any Existing Map Subscriptions will be honoured
