    As you work in IT, I suspect that everything is very securely setup, including access to network devices ;) As your START 52 will be seen as an alternative network, you security system most likely thinks it is suspicious and bars access to it

    I had the same driver problem with a GO50. I have two other Tom Tom satnavs, which I update on the same computer (and which don't suffer from this).

    The problem was the USB3 port. I spent an hour trying to install the driver, but when I connected the USB cable to a USB 2.0 port at the back of the PC, I was able to install the driver (via the Windows update option) no problem.

    Would it be too much to ask the people who designed the excellent map software to sort out the updating software? It remains the worst nightmare. I have 3 devices to update. I started 24 hours ago and the second one still isn't finished.

    I am currently looking at a message on my monitor that says:

    "Your device is not responding right now. Disconnect and then reconnect your device directly to your computer."

    My satnav says " Updating. Do not disconnect your device."

    This should not happen on professionally designed software.

    Still trying to update device no. 2.

    At the moment, Mydrive Connect says that it is waiting for my device. It also says it is Updating Device. Now, if it is waiting to connect to my device, it can't be updating it - now can it?

    At the same time, my satnav tells me that it is "Connected to your computer". So why doesn't MyDrive Connect know that? I've been waiting for 15 minutes. To make matters worse, the satnav is also telling me "Please open or install MyDrive Connect on your computer". But it is installed and it is open!

    When I disconnect the USB cable as requested (or when the software reboots the device), I get a stupid message saying "Our servers are very busy right now". What?

    These are consumer devices: you shouldn't need an IT specialist to carry out these regular updates. But I have to do them for my wife and daughter because process is simply beyond them.

    Got to get back to it now. I've just got another "Update Failed" message.

    On the previous page, I listed a number of possible solutions. Have you tried those? Today just updated a TomTom GO 1000 and a GO 5000 without any issues. It was on W7 and USB2 though.

    That's a very useful post, Zsolt (apart from bit that says you need a separate account for each device). It's where I got the idea of switching to a USB2 port. So thanks for that.

    However, this thread is about the GO50 device. As I have three Tom Toms - all different - I can say with some confidence that this update issue is device-dependent. The GO50 is a pig to update. On the other hand, I have never had a problem updating my Start 25. I have just updated it now and it was a completely different process. It was quick. There were no disconnections. The notifications in MyDrive mirrored exactly what my satnav was telling me. And there was a percentage countdown in MyDrive that didn't happen with my other two satnavs.

    The fact that you can't update via USB3 means that the update software is faulty. What do you do if your computer doesn't have USB2? Workarounds are all well and good, but they shouldn't be necessary.

    Yes, that post is a bit old, at that time, as far as I recall, we had to use a separate account for each. Luckily that one is over.

    The USB3 issue is not a TomTom problem, but usually related to the driver of the USB3 port. Have a look if there is a BIOS or USB3 driver update on your PC's manufacturer's site. In case there is, apply it. Otherwise could check in the BIOS, if you can enable "legacy" or "compatibility" mode for the USB port. That does the trick normally.

    It is also a possibility that your GO50 is faulty. I update a Start 60 (the "new" one), other older Start and GO models and the latest ones on the very same PCs (around 4 nowadays at home), with W7 and W7 too, with USB 2 and 3 ports, never a problem.
