Try a drum reset on the unit by holding the power button about 20 seconds till you hear the drum sounds.0

Drum reset didn't help me, I have about 50 favourites and put my own POI's on eg Key Fuels and Truck Stops.
Any advise for me?

I hear your pain...and I too, have mentioned this before re the GO620. Slow as molasses...and not happy about that. Really dont get why it is Soo slow in response time. A really Downer and apparently no fix on the horizon.
Don't try and do a quick setting/update, of a change in the direction..or anything related to a recent change while enroute. You would've passed the 'change' that you want to update, meters or klicks behind you..and then have to pull off the road to try a recapture what you already passed.

It’s an old Tomtom issue. Before I bought mine, I commented on a Facebook sponsored post by Tomtom and specifically asked if this issue had been resolved (I vowed years ago to never touch another Tomtom device for this reason) and the response by the official Tomtom page assured me that performance issues were a thing of the past. It seems to me that the processor isn’t up to the job. They possibly ran their benchmarks on a Tomtom under no load. Mine reboots a lot. It sometimes reboots as it’s coming around from a previous surprise reboot. I’d have gladly paid an extra £50 to have a device that worked as I expect it to all of the time and not just when conditions are right. Thumbs down Tomtom. You lied to me1

TomTom Essential 6 (August 2019) . Seems absolutely no improvement in performance. For example, painfully slow from saying "Hello Tomtom" to it actually being ready to listen, and then shockingly poor voice recognition.
I thought I would give TomTom another go after being similarly disappointed with performance 3 or 4 years ago. Wish I had not bothered.
Performance-wise Garmin is far superior. If Garmin Digital traffic got better then it would be a no brainer to choose that rather than the current TomTom Lineup.1 -
I find that if my finger is dry it is very poor in confirming my touch, I find that I have to dampen my finger and it works okay.0 -
Just been tempted to try a TomTom 6250 pro after using Garmin. I cannot believe how slow this device is to respond, its painful its the most expensive sat nav iv bought and its like iv gone back to Sinclair 64, the first route i used got me to a single track road in a 14 meter coach, iv been sent into no entry roads, unto one way streets, and DKV garage in a housing cul de sack. also reboots at odd times and this is a slow process to get back to nav, looses signal very often in the most unsuitable place i.e London Paris
I will be returning it for a refund as it is not fit for the purpose it is sold for.1 -
TomTom rewrote their software a few years back, and claimed it would all be wonderful. Sadly they made it far worse. The problem is they have discovered threading, and have used it extremely badly. So when you turn it on, it tries to do loads of irrelevant things, such as checking for updates, drawing redundant maps, and just generally doing irrelevant things. When someone turns it on, it needs to ping to see if there is a new destination, and then ask you for input. All the other stuff makes it chug and chug until ti finally has done it all, which takes maybe 2 to 3 minutes, before the device is usable. Drum roll resets make no difference - it almost immediately reverts to type.
They need to throw away their current software kernel and start again, with proper software developers who can actually write code for low performance devices.
The other thing they need to do is throw away MyDrive. It rarely manages to send a destination to my SatNav - what I do now is add a new Place, so that at some point in the first 15 minutes of my journey it will find it, and that saves me having to input it, as long as I know where to head at the beginning.
Poor poor poor. Garmin better at initial getting going, but they have other issues with routing, traffic updates cost and are poor, mount dreadful.
We are all stuffed - we should have two great competing product ranges, but the reality is we have two extremely inadequate product ranges to choose from.
Sadly there is still room in the market for a decent one, because phones are not yet good enough. Give it another couple of years though, and car satnavs will be dead - not because they aren't useful, but because no company is competent enough to make one that actually works correctly.0 -

I totally agree with @jez6363 - this software appears to have been designed by incompetents. I've been designing/writing software for decades and I'd be ashamed to put my name to this rubbish.
I don't want my TomTom to answer my phone (my car's bluetooth does it much better) but if I disable this it also disables the ability to use Google assistant (and, presumably Siri). Go figure who made that design decision?

Yes I'm fine with them .... I use my GO Premium daily who cares about a Couple of seconds wait for the device to be ready to use...Do you really think those timings are acceptable?

Just another 'First World Problem'....
People can't wait for less than a minute for a device to boot-up from cold, that can potentially save you tens of minutes or more on your journey time....
If my GO Premium is turned off... I simply turn it on as I leave the House, walk to and enter the Car on the drive, put the GO Premium on the Mount, and it's ready to go....
Same here the Bluetooth in the Car is much better, also as the iPhone is mounted on the dash... I use the Siri Assistant direct on the phone....I don't want my TomTom to answer my phone (my car's Bluetooth does it much better) but if I disable this it also disables the ability to use Google Assistant (and, presumably Siri).
