Is there a way to accept a software update when my touchscreen is frozen?

I have a Smart Media system and my touchscreen has stopped responding.
I have read that a software upgrade would potentially reboot the system and possible unfreeze the screen.
However the upgrade won’t start automatically - I need to confirm acceptance, by touching ‘yes’ on the screen!
is there another way to do this?
Apologies if this has been answered 1,000 times already.
