TomTom Go live 1000 Can it be updated beyond map 8.5 or is it junk?

So iv gotten this old 1000 but Iv read several places that its not supported anymore.
So Can it be updated either offisielly or på hack or is it not usable anymore?

    If the serial number starts with TA, then the model is NOT End of Life. If the serial number starts with TB, then I'm afraid that model IS End of Life and therefore no more updates.

    Its a TA device.
    But when I go on the app to update it says "the unit is updated".
    But I maybe have to buy a map first? Expected that pressing the 8.5 map would show possible uppgrades. And when nothing hapened I figuered it was useless to upgrade.
