tomtom start 25- No connection to the computer

my device will not connect to my windows PC. The PC cannot see the device, I have tried different USB leads and all give the same result. It will however accept a charge from the PC via the USB link.

You are correct my device is a TomTom Start 25. I have successfully updated it in the past, but it has been left switched off in glove box of car for approx. the last 12 months. I connected it up to my wndows PC yesterday to charge it up and download the speed camera updates but no joy it charged up OK to full charge but the PC will not see it and neither will the start 25 connect. I suspect there could be a fault in the USB socket on the device yet it will receive a charge! I should add that the device works perfectly but won't accept updates.

Have you tried a Drum roll restart on the device ????

Charge the device for at least 2Hrs "OR" have the device plugged into a power supply
Press and hold the on/off button until you hear a drum-roll sound then release the on/off button.
You won’t lose anything; it’s just like rebooting your PC
I use a Soft/drum-roll start after any upgrade large or small.
It’s also useful to keep in mind for sorting out most minor niggles......
If possible, for the for the first Satellite fix, go outside with a clear view of the Sky

Yes, many thanks I have managed to update the device from some of the information in here. The USB connection appears to be very shaky so that has been the problem, maybe I need a new cable to the device. Thanks again for all the useful help provided.
