TomTom Via- Device not recognised on Windows 10

PC running Windows 10 says device not connected. I've tried everything suggested without success. My device is several years old, model 4EQ50 Z1230. I tried with the original USB cable, tried using a different USB cable. Restarted device several times and it tells me to go to tomtom.com/getstarted which I do, again, and still nothing. It still navigates okay but the maps have not been updated for at least 18 months (because I could never get it to connect). Is this TomTom Via (not sure which number) device too old?

    If you can try connecting your computer via Ethernet, as your computer may be thinking your VIA 1535 is another WiFi source and gets confused
