SD card not recognised on the TomTom | VIA 1535

When I attempted to update my TomTom there was not enough room for the new map. I added a MicroSD card but the TomTom will not recognize it. The card is a SanDisk Ultra Plus 16GB. What am I doing wrong?

    When you inserted the card, did the device offer to format it? If not, try a drum reset by holding the power button about 20 seconds till you hear the drum sounds. Does it offer to format now?

    No, it did not offer to format it. It just starts up like normal without even acknowledging that the SD card is inserted. I've tried the restart which didn't help either.

    Take the card and format it as FAT32 in a card reader, do not use quickformat. Then reinsert into the device and see if the device offers to format it now.
