TomTom Start model; updates failed

New to this ;downloaded the app for the update the 'My drive' thing ; did all I should ; like so many on here I started the downlaod then the ap continued to freeze on me; BUT my main moan is that, once you start the update your current maps get wiped out !! I have paid for an ap and update of map I now cannot use ; I now have to go and buy a new Tom Tom...not very happy as the maps got deleted; will not do that again ; IS there an n on going fault with the My Drive ap or ????? and ; can I get my money back for an undownloaded map? and if so how ?
