Forum Problems

So many problems; where do I start?

First, the forum is a little odd in that there is no clear indication as to why there is no Reply option. Is it closed? Who knows.

Second, touching upon that is the basic issue of intuitive design. I never understand why someone must reinvent the wheel when such fine software is readily available.

Third, no mouse-over pop-up info with any of the page icons.

Aw, well. Maybe you can add some of the problems you've noticed here.

Strange. I see a Reply button below your post. I click it and reply here. Then, I'll hit the 'post comment'

You will only see a Reply button if you are logged in to the forum.

I don't see a Reply option either but when I click on Quote, the Reply option pops open. Seems to me it would be much more intuitive to label this option Reply rather than Quote.

Scroll below the latest post to see a box for text entry and a big green Reply button.

This Forum clearly suffers from the problem of ONLY being able to display in "Flat-Mode" (as opposed to "Threaded-Mode") & only offers the Reply option immediately following the last item posted.

This makes it very obscure, when you want to reply to any post, preceding the last post, as it will not necessarily be clear just which post you are responding to!! The only option becomes the excessive use of the Quote-Button to make it clear which post you are responding to!!

Even if you "think" you are responding to the last post, there is a possibility that (by the time that you have composed your reply & posted it) your post will NOT immediately follow on from the post that you thought!!

    Regards,
    John-Jay

Have come across this on other forums. Only way around, without using quotes, is to post a quick (one letter?) 'reservation post' immediately following the post you are replying to and then Edit this post to expand it to full size.

But a non-flat forum would require to every time go through the entire topic again, just to see if there are any added replies between the posts, right? I think an advantage of a flat forum layout is that you can simply scroll down and all new posts will be right after the latest unread one.
