Smartest Route Planner ?

BobHopeBobHope Posts: 1 [New Traveler]
Try planning a route from Dieppe to Interlaken. Then zoom in on the route chosen. Try altering the route.
Then zoom in on the route and examine every mile of it in detail. You will see the route goes to a traffic island
then loops round 3 roads and brings you back to the same traffic island, in a continuous loop
Try then changing the route so that it takes the correct road and you cannot do it. It wouldnt be so bad if
it happened once but it is all the way along at random points. I have spent the better part of 5 hours just
trying to correct the faults. Laughably I first noticed this issue on Sunday when I planned a route from Sydenham to Box Hill
We reached Croydon and then were sent round a continuous loop .
My verdict on TomTom devices is stay clear AVOID AT ALL COSTS
We are going to Italy in 5 weeks but first I will bin this useless rubbish
and buy something better. In fact we would be better off buying an ipad and using google road maps
in my opinion. 5 hours using TomTom dumbest route planner compared to 30 minutes with google
So the question is are you going to do something to make this rubbish better or do i bin the tomtom?

Like user Niall I do not seem to be able to reproduce your problem... I tried Car and Motorcycle routeing, at high zoom levels every traffic island and major Intersection and normal Intersection all were routed correctly???

I've just planned the route from Sydenham to Box Hill... The route near Croydon only navigates around three traffic Islands, all three appear to be OK, the other traffic Islands on the route also appear to be OK???

I have seen similar problems when using the "Smartest Route Planner". Just back from a 3,000 mile trip. One misdirection, TomTom had me exit the freeway, down a two lane paved road, then onto a single lane paved road, then onto a dirt road. Then in the middle of the corn field says to turn around, was trying to go back towards the interstate where it had exited. Next error exits off interstate, then through housing development where it just kept looping me in a circle. Another, exited the interstate off ramp, then directly across to the on ramp and back onto the interstate it had just told me to exit from? I had found that by reloading the route while driving, it would correct the mis-direction last given. These errors were only when using those routes created using the Smartest Route Planner. When I recorded the destinations as a "favorite" and selected it that way, the navigation was flawless. While towing a 36 ft 5th wheel trailer, these kinds of errors are unacceptable, I quit using the "Smartest Route Planner". Haven't used the Smartest Route Planner previously so don't know of this is a new or inherent issue.

    Hi thedrvr,

    Welcome to the Community!

Those routing issues sound to me like map related quite likely. Could you post some details about them to the Map Quality board, please? Our Maps Specialist could then take a closer look at them.

    Thanks, Mikko

    Hi
I was wondering if you had mistaken the "Keep left" or "Keep right" instructions ???
Here in the UK we get a Keep left or Keep right instruction, for example, if we are approaching Major Road or Motorway junction/intersection and you are supposed to go straight on, i.e. Not use the junction, the device will say Keep left or Keep right as appropriate, instead of "Ahead... Go straight on"

    Hi
This bug applies to all NAV4/(5 Wifi) devices
After you have created your "A" to "B" route using the MyDrive Web (2) Route planner
When you sync the route to your device using the "Send to Device" menu option
I think the device removes your planned "A" location and moves it to your present location, but it doesn't replace your original "A" location with a stop, and so the route misses the original "A" location

Note... This bug applies to routes where "A" is not your present location

For example Route from "A" Birkenhead to "B" Manchester.....

e741788b-1054-4936-8886-ebd1bb6cc509.jpg The device receives the route -> Calculates the route from my present location (Worcestershire)... Then completely ignores "A" Birkenhead

    Screen GO 520
9595e2f9-d092-4df3-8502-0dbe5b0dd376.jpg Workaround... When planning your route if you place a sacrificial stop right next to the planned Start of your "A" to "B" Route

7fd0ed66-9cb9-45f6-bf1b-889cefd2eee7.pngThen when you sync the route to your device using the "Send to Device" menu option, the device still moves your planned start to your present location... But the sacrificial stop holds the correct route... From your Present location to original "A" then "B"
In the above example... Worcestershire --> Birkenhead --> Manchester

    Screen GO 520
    8f1b3f4d-adb5-4157-bd4a-55ab54636089.jpg
The same bug existed within the MYDdrive Web (2) Route planner, the route planner also dropped point A
But that bug appears to have been fixed?
