How to activate speed cameras on Go500 ?

Hi all,

I have installed speed cameras on my Go 500, but it simply doesn't have any effect - I was never warned about any cameras :-(  MyDrive shows they are installed.

I was following the instructions to activate speed cameras here: https://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/15792/kw/speed cameras

but the information simply does not match menus in my device.

To be more precise, the information reads:

1.Select the Main Menu button in Map View or Guidance View to show the Main Menu - this works!!!
2.Scroll to the right of the screen and select the Settings button . - that works as well!!!
3.Select Sounds & Warnings - this works!!!

You can then set how you want to be warned for the different types of cameras and safety zones. You can change settings for whether you want to be warned, never warned or warned only if you are speeding.

For example, to change how you are warned when you approach a fixed speed camera, do the following:
1.Select Sounds and Warnings in the Settings Menu. - this works!!!
2.Select Speed camera warnings. - THIS ONE DOES NOT EXIST ON MY DEVICE.

Please help!  Does it maybe depend on the voice I selected, or the units (sometimes I switch from imperial to metric and back)

    Best regards

[*]  You will only "hear" a spoken warning if you are if you are using the computer voice (TTS) of the language that you have set for the device, in Switzerland that can only be French, German or Italian :( therefore implying metric. See my table of TTS voices here

Thanks Niall, I can select a TTS voice, but it still doesn't resolve my issue.

I don't see ANY kind of warnings for speed cameras while I drive.  I would be perfectly happy with a beep-beep, to be honest.

I also don't see the possibility to switch the safety cameras on in the TomTom menus, so I am not sure if the warnings will start if I venture to Italy or France :(

    Dear EthoZ,

Your link suggests that it is illegal to use TomTom to signal speed cameras in Switzerland?  If so, I can accept it, but my main problem is that I can not switch the option for speed camera warnings in the menus of the TomTom device.

That means that even if I venture to Italy or France (which I do on occasions), I am not sure if speed cameras will show or not :(

        Kind regards,

        Bojan

[*]  It looks like there is a bug in the software the TT are aware of, see here ([*] any news of a fix?)

The only way I can think of getting it to work is to drive over the border in to your nearest country, change the country on your device to that one, and as the option will not be grayed out you should be able to change the "Safety Settings"

    Safety warnings
Select Settings in the Main Menu, then select Sounds & Warnings.

Select Safety warnings. You can then set how you want to be warned for the different types of danger zones and safety hazards. You can change settings for advance warning time and whether you want to be warned, never warned or warned only if you are speeding.

    [*]Danger zones
This type of warning is only given in France where you are only warned about danger zones.

    [*]Accident blackspots
This type of warning is given for a place where road traffic accidents have historically been concentrated.

    [*]Risk zones
[*]This type of warning is only given in France where you are only warned about danger zones.
    [*]Traffic jams
Traffic jam warnings in the route bar are part of TomTom Traffic. You can choose never to be warned or to be warned when approaching a jam too quickly.

    [*]When speeding
This warning is given as soon as you exceed the speed limit by more than 5 km/h or 3 mph. When you are speeding, the speed panel also turns red in the guidance view.

    Hi all,

For more information about the legality of Speed Cameras, please see https://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5560

On the new GO devices the Speed Cameras button disappears when you're in a country where the services is not legal. It appears back again, based on your GPS location, when you're in a region where the service is legal. This also works if you plan a route and run a route preview. As soon as the demo reaches a region where the service is legal the button appears in the menu.

    Cheers, Mikko
