Sometimes people are asking about the map version that the online TomTom maps use. I'll post the map versions in this topic and will update them as soon as I notice a change.

It's my habit to remind the versions of maps found in our on-line maps when a new Public Map Release is announced - done in this case..  It is usually to the Route Planner an intending customer will go when making his purchase decision and to a lesser extent Map Share Reporter

The perfect digital map will always be a 'Work-in-progress'. In most areas in the World where we have a presence, I believe we get pretty close.

That's a very good reason to keep it up-to-date! :D

What would be the reasoning behind having both the reporter and the site that provides online directions use maps that are out of date? Why wouldn't TomTom use the latest and greatest maps available? It seems odd.

Actually the right question should be: why using two different map's sources for online services??

I cannot agree more.  Stitching contiguous maps should be a simple process BUT the boundaries have to be mathematically exact.  If just a very minor change has been made along the way [and I'm not speaking of the changes that might have of a Political nature] things need fixing and fixing fast.  It could simply be a mismatch of a mm in drawing it, that went unnoticed.

OK, that's the work done in the boiler room in such cases BUT in the meantime we have all installed the next quarterly map update for our region, we want to route to new places and we want to check the detail improvments from map to map and we can't do this without an up to date on-line map.

It's the Global On-line contiguous stitched boundaries that are the culprits.  We [and beta-testers] will have picked this up immediately and it's also the responsibility of our Production Team to resolve these errors.

I would allow max 1 week, for this process to be completed, if outside the release.  Doing it the current way makes no sense to me.  This step should go so far as to be stitched before the next update comes out

I'll keep this one, atypically brief. Yup.

Updated the first post. The online Map Share Reporter (MSR) tool map has now been updated to v925 :). And the PND maps have been updated to v930.

Thanks mapfanatic for reminding me ;-).

Agreed Niall - I'm really bitching this end.  In fact I don't see why this task can't be done before a release.  If for some non-understood reason this can't be done then I'm pushing for 1 month after release.

    At least we're getting there.

Now lets not take this topic in a different direction 'down Rover, down' :DTopic is coming plus a sticky announcing this so you're the first to know of this 'very much in test phase'.  So keep your notes on the facility until we open up formally.  Now for a useful addition - in the MSR tear-drop you'll find fields to specify new-to-map POI.  When you zoom right in as if to place the pin, existing POI expose on a hover and you can now pick up names and other detail.

@ Megalos: Can you check the versions once again?

Downloadable maps for PND are having version v935 now, and I just noticed some changes in MSR too (v930?).

    Don't know about Route Planner.
  • MegalosMegalos Posts: 5,780 Superusers
Thanks for the notification, Ronald. I updated the PND maps. The MSR and RP maps I checked too, but they are still on v925 and v905 unfortunately.

    @ Megalos:

Where can you actually see the version of MSR and Route Planner?

Tried to find out the versions myself, but without success.
  • MegalosMegalos Posts: 5,780 Superusers
That's not possible. I track the map version by comparing the maps to PND maps of which I know the version. Because this can be a lot of work, I created this topic so you all don't have to do this :-).
  • visserronaldvisserronald Posts: 23 [Renowned Trailblazer]
OK, all clear to me now.

Thanks for the good work Megalos ;)

I am noticing quite a lot of changes now.

A bunch of POI changes, made by me at the end of February, I see back in MSR now.

@ Megalos, can you please check versions once more?
  • MegalosMegalos Posts: 5,780 Superusers
Hi Ronald, I checked and the map is still v925. Maybe they incorporate new POIs, but the street layout is still v925 as far as I can see.
  • visserronaldvisserronald Posts: 23 [Renowned Trailblazer]
OK, than I suppose you are right, that they are implementing corrected POI's faster.

    Thanks for checking!
