The cable connection doesn't appear lose, so unsure whether this is a problem with device or mount?

For the power cable to the mount are you using a USB port in your vehicle?
As the USB ports in your vehicle provides only 0.5Amps whereas your device should have 1.2Amps to run AND charge the battery. With a vehicle USB port the reduced power means that the device tries to save it's power requirements by dimming the screen, reducing power to the SIM thus dropping traffic info, and, as you have found out, it then powers off rather than going to sleep.
The charger must be rated at 5V 2amps [or use a PC USB port (not a laptop)] as the device draws 1.2amps

No, it's running from the main socket, was working fine for about 2 years up until last week. The mount & cable are came with the device & are not 3rd party. Tried soft reset, did not help.

    Try with another cable
tried with another cigarette lighter charger
if it still does not work connect the cable directly to the GPS socket to try.

Tried the cable direct to device, held it's charge all day. The mount must be faulty. Looks like i'll have to fork out £35 on a new one :/
