ITN Files

I am trying to load .itn files into a TomTom Go 5000 using the advice here:
https://discussions.tomtom.com/en/discussion/1129310/is-it-possible-to-import-itn-files-to-a-start-52-using-mydrive

However, my device is quite old and its standard map no longer fits on the internal memory. So its map is loaded on an SDCard.

The method to transfer ITN files also involves an SD Card. But, as soon as I remove the map sdcard to insert the itn sdcard, the device complains "No Maps Available" and that is the only thing on the screen, I can't get to a menu.

How can I make this work? I really need these itn files and they are much too large to recreate.

    Hi @BFG_
    Welcome to the community! A different version of the Europe maps has been activated on your account. This map should get offered in smaller map regions/countries.
    Try installing a smaller map without inserting the SD card on to the internal memory.

    Thanks,
    Vikram.

    Using the Tomtom MyDrive Web Route planner....
    Here... https://mydrive.tomtom.com
    (1)... If you 'Save 'n' Sync' (GPX Track)... The device will follow the track like a Breadcrumb trail...
    The track is fixed, and the device will >> NOT << display the Stops or respond to Live Traffic... Also, a .GPX Track can be a little hit or miss for a complex journey
    I much prefer .ITN Routes, for me .GPX tracks for complex journeys are totally useless....
    I would suspect they would also be useless for most delivery drivers....
    See... https://discussions.tomtom.com/en/discussion/comment/1708222/#Comment_1708222

    (2).... The Route planned directly on the device is a .ITN Route the .ITN Route uses Stops... The Stops >> ARE << displayed on the screen when Navigating and the device will plan the route between the stops... An .ITN Route will respond to Live Traffic and any route deviations BUT an .ITN route will doggedly follow the stops in the order they were created, if you miss a stop, the device will continuously attempt to guide you to the missed stop... You have to cancel the problem stop on the device to avoid it....
    i.e... Tap 4Dot (.... Menu) --> Current Route --> 'Skip Next Stop'....

    For more Info/tips using the MDW Route planner....

    Thank you for the quick replies.

    How do I make use of the sdcard itn loading facility, and have my maps on the SD card please?

    Hi
    @BFG_
    Install a small Mapzone onto the on-board memory to act as a 'Keeper' to keep the device running while you swap the Micro SDHC cards about transferring .ITN Routs....
    And the Europe Map to the Memory card

    OK excellent., that worked. The last time I attempted something like that was a few years ago, and I recall it being a lot harder.
    I see now in the My Content section I have a choice to select the destination as Install on Device / Install on SD Card.

    So I have installed United Kingdom & Republic of Ireland on the device today
    And I already had Europe + Benelux on the SD card.

    They are now both available. I'm please to find that where these maps overlap, it's not causing a problem.

    And now I can swap SDCards and use the method in #1 above to load .itn files. Thanks guys

    Probably the subject of a separate thread, but I note that the ITN routes added to my device, don't synchronise to MyDrive. I know the sync is working as a couple of new "My Places" have synced, but not the routes.

    Is that as expected?

    Hi
    @BFG_
    There's MAX of 20 stops when you sync an .ITN Route from the MDW Route planner....
