Forest roads in Tasmania not showing - Route not possible'

I bought TomTom Rider 550 specifically to upload a gps file of some rally tracks along forestry trails in Tasmania, Australia. I have a hand held garmin that shows contours and all these roads....I chose TomTom as reviews said the interface was better....How do I see contours / 3D and why are the smaller roads not showing? This is very annoying. Please help. Is there a more detailed map that I must purchase?

HI, I would love to help you with this, is the roads showing on my openstreet maps or the other main gps apps? Do you have a file with the roads?

It would be best if you can provide a file or you may report the road missing here: https://www.tomtom.com/mapshare/tools/new/mapshare

    Thanks,

    Shawn

Hi Shawn, Thanks so much for a reply. I have taken a look at 'my open street maps', I was not aware of this site before. Some of the tracks are marked with dashed lines where they are roads and not named also definitely not all there. When you say 'other main gps maps', do you mean google maps? Most of the roads are on google maps and many are named.
The two examples below show google maps and then open street maps, note the missing tracks.

Thanks for giving me the missing road link, I was hoping when I bought this that it would have the same level of maps as a garmin though or the ability to import a similar topographic map. I suppose I really should have done more research. It would seem that buying a mobile phone holder for my motorbike may have been a lot cheaper. :)

Hopefully this link should get you to Mapshare reporter, you will need to Log in and then Zoom in to start reporting the missing roads:

    Good afternoon,

I would really love to help you on this, though you will have to find some map source they can use to add in those trails.

Did Garmin GPS have those bike roads on there as well or did you manually add it?

I will keep searching though please note TomTom is not allowed to just copy data off the Google Maps, which is against the terms of use.

Success attached below is the open-source map from the Government of Australia.

    https://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?url=http://www.asris.csiro.au/arcgis/rest/services/abares/forests_of_australia_2018/MapServer&source=sd

Using the above map, screenshot area of interest and use that while submitting the issue using clicking on map, choose "other", attach file and comments.

Make sure to include link in the comment, will just have to wait now for the team to add in all the roads and make sure it is all set for you to enjoy :)

Keep in mind, this will take a while to finish, they will use the link, GPS data and other sources to complete.

Do not screenshot map off Google, that is against terms & conditions

Hi Shawn, that was the google maps view. Below is the garmin view that I get with the Aus and NZ topo map, far superior unfortunately. I would love to see this view when riding my MC through the trails.

Hey Shawn, thanks for that link. This is a great map and shows more info (aside from contours) than the garmin map.

    Good morning @Bendy

I would like to let you know that Mapshare has been updated with satellite imagery which I believe will make it much easier for you.

They have accepted the report and lets see what happens on the next map update next Monday.

Hopefully they were able to add in the roads, and everything properly, so you can enjoy :)

I am for sure they will do a great job of adding in all the roads properly with the GPS data they have and make sure the roads are done right.

    Hi Shawn,

Thanks for that. I spent around 5 hours sending off missing roads etc yesterday so I am hoping that things will soon be updated. Thanks for the tip re satellite view, do you know how do I view this on my TT Rider 550? I have a .gpx file that imports but says route not possible. Is this likely because the roads dfo not connect through or could this be a different problem? I appreciate all your help on this.

You can learn more about the map reporter here: https://help.tomtom.com/hc/en-ca/articles/360013960619-About-MapShare-reporter

I do not have a rider device though try the following solutions others have posted:

https://discussions.tomtom.com/en/discussion/1138933/rider-550-can-i-use-gpx-files-for-green-lane-riding#:~:text=Rider 550 - can I use GPX files,is shown in your My Routes list.

    https://discussions.tomtom.com/en/discussion/1136984/transferring-a-gpx-file-from-my-surface-laptop-go-to-my-rider-550

I would like to mention likely your device will get the next map update in the next quarter if all goes well

You can check back on the TomTom MyDrive website ( https://mydrive.tomtom.com/en_ca) map share updates frequently which will work on the Amigo/TomTom Go Apps :)

I am not sure if they will add satellite imagery into other products, though it will make it easier to report issues on the map with the imagery :)

    Good afternoon,

They have added more roads in the area, though more are missing, it would be great if you can report them.
