Update problems

I cannot update my Carminat Tom Tom LIVE IB6xxxxx123 as I haven't updated for 3 years but due to Covid I have only driven locally and never thought to update please advise

    If it's a map update, connect your SD to your Tomtom Home account then buy a map.


    If it is an update of Tomtom trafic which has not been updated for 3 years, your Sim card is deactivated and it is no longer possible to reactivate it.

    I'm just going round in circles. I installed mydrive, plugged my start25 in and a circulating symbol started, I assume that means it is updating, then a message popped up on my computer screen "Device updating, it may take some time", but then on my navigating screen less than a minute later "Safe to remove your device". Does that mean it's finished updating? My computer screen still says "Device updating. Which is right? I've wasted loads of time going down blind alleys with TomTom software, the wording is so ambiguous, does everyone have this trouble?
    Any help will be appreciated.
