Go Discover 7” not connecting to Wi-Fi (router 5 ft away)

Brand new out of the box.
Won’t connect to Wi-Fi (router 5 ft away) or via usb to Mac.
Message says Oops etc.
my older device connects and updates ok.
Tried factory reboot that hasn’t helped.
Any suggestions?

    Question are you connected with the password of the wi-fi network?

    After the password is entered, it connects, but drops out again after a few seconds.
