I connected to the internet with my Tomtom 550, selected updates and go, the display went blank and I have no idea what it is doing. If I try to turn it on the display come on for a moment and then goes off again. It's been "updating" for about 3 hours. I have no idea if it is actually updating or not.

could it be that the battery is empty? Did you connect it to a charger?
Normally you will first see a spinning circle and then a circle that fills up as you progress

I unplugged the USB cable and reinserted it, now it says it is updating!

Ah ok. I cross my fingers.
For me it seems that you update via pc and Usb and not only via wifi, right?

I think there was a poor connection with the usb, once I removed and reinserted the cable, the lcon for updating appeared and all went forward without an issue. When it was completed, it started up, and then asked fr an update of speed camera data, which it also did without an issue. Thanks for your input!
