Update doesn't work and maps are gone...

First I wanted to update my TomTom Go Basic 5" via wifi (with good connection). Everytime it said: "Oops, something went wrong, please try again." The update didn't work. When I now start my TomTom, it immediately says "Add a map". When I click on that, I have to buy maps. All maps have apparently been removed, while I have lifetime maps. It doesn't do anything, I cannot update anymore. I've had the device for almost 2 years but I always have trouble updating.
The customer service says that I have to change my password for my TomTom account in an easy password, but that has nothing to do with it!?!
Could anyone help me please?
