I dread updating my Tom Tom 6000

Connecting in the first place is trial and error. Switching on off, plugging in, unplugging until 'My Connect' finally sees the device. Then it repeatedly disconnects during the update. The update takes far too long when all my other software updates for any other manufacturer takes a few mins. Same for years. Why can't Tom Tom get this right?
