Connecting GO Premium (ZS) device via MyDrive Connect on Windows 10(11) and not WiFi

Does anyone here have an answer to this - I tried using the ChatBot with no luck(!) and going through the support pages.

I want to connect my device onto the MyDrive (I used this for my older TomTom device which I gave away) as I thought configuring and updating etc on MyDrive better than doing it over WiFi on the device. So having gone through the process of uninstalling the MyDrive and removing the driver, then reinstalling and re-connecting the GO device (as suggested on support pages) I still get no-where - that is when I turn the device on by plugging in (with the TomTom USB cable and directly into a USB C port) I do seem to get as far as the connection window whirring and saying "connecting" but then after 20s or so I get repeatedly the screen asking me to Add a Device (!) Grr!

Anyway, a look at the log file (log.txt) says: RelayAgentWorker::onReverseServerDisconnection|Failed to connect to the PND on revinetd connection. - whatever this means. No other error logs - get the same message repeating every time I try connecting via MyDrive.

In device drivers I note that the driver Remote NDIS Compatible Device loads and there are no errors reported on this. (driver dated 21/06/2006 version 10.0.22000.1) - but I am guessing this perhaps has nothing to do with not being able to connect my GO Premium to MyDrive?

Anyone here have any suggestions? Or is it that I can only use GO Premium over the WiFi connection - talking of which I removed the connection I had in case this was upsetting thing.

Looking forward to an avalanche of nerd support! Chris

MyDrive Connect (MDC) opens and does not offer updates.

For WiFi devices connected via USB, MDC only acts as an intermediary for the provision of the Internet connection.

updates are activated from the updating GPS.

So MDC is essentially a waste of space on my PC? Not only can one not look at what's been updated, but one can't use MDC to edit addresses stored on it, for instance, which would be far easier than doing it all on the touch screen of the device which is quite fiddly - definitely now as easy as interacting using keyboard and mouse. I preferred my older TomTom device where I could do all this stuff on MyDrive.

Editing stored addresses typically is done by logging in to MyDrive on the web. Places you store on the web, as well as recent destinations, are synced with all of your device(s) which are signed in with the same account. So you can add or edit places or plan routes using your computer and the changes will be reflected on your TomTom. Conversely, if you add a place on the TomTom it will appear on your web account.

yes, I'd forgotten about that option - so long since I used it! But then again not sure why MDC isn't made so that one can do this all in one place. I wasn't able to use Firefox as the add-ons for privacy seem to interfere with the Log-In pop-up. OK on Edge but then why can't this be made easier - like I say should be able to do this with MDC surely?

Anyway, thanks for confirming my suspicions, that I wasted some time finding that my GO Premium device isn't designed to use MDC at all - wish this was stated on the tin, so to speak.

    Kind regards, Chris

The advantage of Wi-Fi devices is that there is no need to start the computer for an update, no antivirus problem or firewall blocking access to the server.

Using a nothing special Dell WIN 10 PC, My GO Premium is 100% compatible with MyDrive Connect... NO problems
I would check your USB-C to Micro USB adapter... Some USB-C adapters work OK others DO NOT
I guess some makes of USB-C ports adapters are more backward compatible than others....

Wondering if you mean your Go Premium is recognised on your Dell and you can see what's on the satnav via MyDrive connect?

    I will try a different USB-C cable / outlet

    Thanks

    Hi

Even if you connect your Go to Mydrive connect you only see the voices to install or remove.

it is always from your GPS that you install the maps.

    Hi
    @drchrisg
The NAV5 (Wi-Fi) devices normally update using Wi-Fi....
If Wi-Fi is not available or is slow/unstable/unreliable.....
See Option... (2) Connect over USB....

Note... Tomtom NAV5 (Wi-Fi) devices will only connect to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network

TomTom Video... Updating your navigation device using Wi-Fi

If you have successfully connected your device to your Wi-Fi....
To check your Connection Speed, Signal Strength & Quality
    On the Device... Tap 4Dot (.... Menu) --> Settings --> Wi-Fi
Tap on Your WI-FI name (The one Showing as connected)
    A new Menu Page opens

    7g8gwfpx1swt.jpg
On the left-hand side of the screen is your Wi-Fi Connection Status

Tomtom recommends a minimum Wi-Fi download speed of 30Mbps
    Tomtom NAV5 (Wi-Fi) devices will only connect to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
All the update actions are executed on the device...

    ___________________________

    Option... (1) Connected Wi-Fi

    zzb10t6jrg2v.jpg
    Updating the device....
Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Updates & New Items

    Extra Maps are Installed/Maintained....
Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Maps

I always update my devices one Update at a time
The NavCore Application and QuickFixGPS updates are force ticked by Tomtom... Deselect any other updates like Maps, Speed Cams etc... Update the mandatory item/s first, when complete update the remaining items one at a time

Note... NAV(5 Wi-Fi) devices connected over Wi-Fi do not require MyDrive Connect to be running Even if MyDrive is running you have no access the MyDrive Connect menu structures as used by the previous NAV3 & 4 devices

    Option... (2) Connected USB
If Wi-Fi is not available or is slow/unstable/unreliable.....
Tomtom recommends a minimum Wi-Fi download speed of 30Mbps

Connecting hard-wired over USB is normally more reliable than any Over The Air Connections
Updating your new device over USB will require "MyDrive Connect"
    Get it here..... https://help.tomtom.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360013959499-Installing-MyDrive-Connect

There's no need to log in to MyDrive Connect... See Note... (1)
Connect your Device to a USB Port on your PC
    The Update will hopefully complete

If you're using a Laptop, it would be also more advisable to use a hard-wire connection back from the Laptop to the Router....

Note... A new version of MyDrive Connect has been released.....
    See.... https://discussions.tomtom.com/en/discussion/1130566/a-new-version-of-mydrive-connect-released

When using the latest MyDrive Connect, the menu flow has changed....
Now, when using the latest version of MyDrive connect to update a NAV5 (Wi-Fi) device over USB, it >> APPEARS << that you can update the device using the MyDrive Connect menu structure... When in fact this is >> NOT << the case....

Clicking on the update button only opens the new MyDrive Connect "Splash screen" saying "UPDATE DEVICE THE EASY WAY" etc...

The NAV5 (Wi-Fi) devices have no access to the MyDrive Menu structures as used by the previous NAV3 & 4 devices.....
    ___________________________

If you choose to update a NAV5 (Wi-Fi) device over USB....
MyDrive Connect only needs to run in the background on the PC Taskbar... You can close the 'Main Mydrive Window'

    em7rmo28tl38.jpg
That is displaying "UPDATE DEVICE THE EASY WAY" Splash screen...

    a1a9r6jyfdho.jpg
Updating a NAV5 (Wi-Fi) device... Even if you are updating using USB... The updating method is the same as using Wi-Fi....
All the update actions are executed on the device...
    Tap the 4Dot (.... Menu) --> Setting --> Updates & New Items....
If a Operating System Software update (Navcore) is required... Deselect the remaining updates, install the Navcore update 1st....

The Navcore Software Update is Mandatory, you cannot deselect the update....
    lvf6a0pjrt8t.jpg
    Then install the remaining updates....
I always install the update one at a time....
There's less chance of a log jam on the Server....
    iofr8x26j4oi.jpg
Extra Maps are Installed/Maintained... Tap the 4Dot(.... Menu) --> Setting --> Maps

    End

    Maybe useful...
Using the MyDrive Connect Menu structure... Instead of the onboard (Wi-Fi) Menu Structure....

Updating a Tomtom Wi-Fi device over USB... The (Wi-Fi) device requires the use of the (Wi-Fi) Device Onboard Menus....
I've discovered a different way of updating the Wi-Fi devices.....
Using the MyDrive Connect Menu structure... Instead of the onboard (Wi-Fi) Menu Structure....
It works a treat, it's just like updating the previous NAV4 devices... But much faster as the (Wi-Fi) Devices update over USB on the fly i.e... No Download/Upload/Install....
