Hi,
I recently joined mapshare to update my local map as my local POI in the UK are completely wrong (many are closed for many years or at the wrong location, duplicated, a complete mess etc). I have a few report that came back as "not accepted". How can I provide more information on these???

For instance, there was a Costa Coffee shop in town which as recently closed as they opened a brand new one outside of town. I reported this POI as permanently closed (report ID 33e5c0f0-9015-43df-9f20-820ceec38103 ) but this was "not accepted" the comment being "source conflict".
I do know the store is closed as I pass it everyday! Also, on the costa.co.uk site, the only costa store listed is the new one at the outside of the town, the old one (36 High Street, Wellington, TA21 8RB) is no longer listed on their web site either!

There are a few other report which were "not accepted". I am happy to add the link to their "branch finder" web site to confirm that this is no longer open
Post Office: report ID c35e400f-a1c6-463b-b03d-1167ae9213cc , https://www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder There are no Post office anymore in Wellignton town centre. That was used to be in the OneStop shop which closed (last year).

Natwest: closed for over 4 yrs, Report ID: fe093b79-8315-470d-bfbd-532fba432e04 https://locator.natwest.com/results ("mobile branch" means a Natwest Van comes 1/2 day a week in the village, not a building.
St John's Service Station = Esso at the same location: Report ID 7a44a5d1-f858-4656-88de-21be7b89616f
see Esso St Jon, https://www.esso.co.uk/en-gb/find-station/?longitude1=-3.3100400712646483&longitude2=-3.1426702287353514&latitude1=50.949997690959215&latitude2=51.00403943562498&zoom=13&searchText=Wellington TA21

etc...

    Hi @happytoon

I think the problem may be that Tomtom may only change a business POI if the business concerned advise them presumably to avoid any mischievous reporting. Your comments like the Post Office not listing a PO at the location is an interesting one and maybe @VikramK could pass the cases to the relevant team for consideration.

    Thanks.
I doubt any businesses will contact Tomtom to let them know that they closed a branh/site. That's why I put the link to the official "branch finder" on the Web, showing that the branch is no longer listed (ie closed?)
In my reports, Costa, Post Office and Natwest bank so far.

    HI @happytoon

I would like to point out that they use many sources from the web that may be the conflict, I know there is an official one though TripAdvisor or Yelp or other business websites may be wrong.

Kindly provide name, coordinates in a list of the old & new place please as I will try to report and get this solved for you.

    Thank you :)

Also, since Bing uses the same database as TomTom plus other sources maybe Bing has the wrong one too, also Bing likes to show the source data under the description, if you are able to please report the error to the source.

https://feedback.azuremaps.com this is another place I like to report issues to as well. There may be one source out there that hasn't been updated that is causing this issue, there is always another side of things.

    HI @happytoon

I am happy to report that I have reported the issue to Azure maps as it also sends reports to TomTom Maps.

Also, in Bing Maps, it shows it as still open in the Wellington area as well as the source data which is the website of official as well as below stuff, anyways I have suggested it as closed.

I will provide links before of the source data that still shows as open, you may need an account to suggest an edit and it's best if the business claims those businesses so they can update them when needed.

****Esso still shows the St John's Gas Station on their website*****

Kindly go to the above links and suggest an edit as well as always check Bing Maps on the place as it may show the wrong source data location.

    Thank you :)

I believe that when the sources are updated TomTom will fix it if you report again

    Update:

I have sent feedback through the Contact Us section of the Post Office and Coffee website.

    Thanks Shawn,
I don't use a search engine (like bing) but directly the site of the company in question (link in my email) for instance, for. Costa coffee, I look directly to the web site of Costa and search for their store on the Costa Web site. One can assume that they have their own site up to date when the close and open new stores etc. I do know that other databases (yelp, TripAdvisor... Etc) may not have been updated with the latest info. Same. For the others,
Post Office (Royal mail) - > check the Royal mail Web site.
Natwest bank - > check the Natwest bank Web site etc.
For the closed Costa, there are no new tenant yet (empty building).

TomTom uses many sources to find business info, reviews, ratings, this provides useful data to travellers to where to visit and so on. Usually, Google, Apple, Bing, TomTom crawl the web for these, and these maps apps are what consumers use.

If you would like to get this fixed, it would be best to fix up those Yell and other sources, as that is the reason why didn't accept your report.

I would like to point out that Google Maps has not closed down the business you have mentioned, I see a "The Post Office" & "Royal Mail" & "Esso- ST John" & "Costa Coffee" listed as well in the wrong places.

These could all be factors they considered removing a listing, also if you weren't using TomTom apps, you would likely encounter the same type of issues on Google or other maps.

    I hope you understand!

    As well https://find-open.co.uk/wellington-somerset/costa-coffee-94817 & https://www.cylex-uk.co.uk/.

These websites also bring more customer reach for business as well! People like the TripAdviser, Yell, integration as it provides reviews, tips and other ideas to travellers.

HI Happytoon, sorry for the long rant earlier, I am happy to report I have convinced the TomTom team to close down the POI as requested, do note that this will take time to update on the maps on the next weekly update. Also, note that some devices or navigation devices may be updated quarterly of the year, weekly updates are of what I am aware on the MyDrive and GO App on phones!

    Thank you for your patience:)

Thank you for convincing them to accept the changes.

On Mapshare, these are still marked as "not accepted".

Also, if you looked at Google map the Costa POI was listed but also marked as "permanently closed".
I checked Google again this morning and they now have removed the Costa POI... They are quick!
I did another report on that Costa as there is a duplicated POI for the same Costa across the road (close to the esso POI 054b325d-58db-44bd-bc1c-88681a74d401) this one, i added screenshot (Google map, Costa Web site) and they accepted It (but the original report from which the costa is duplicated from is still there!

I am afraid I don't have the time to report on all media (trip advisor, yelp, cyclex etc) so that I can the data in tomtom is correct. The data should be checked at the source, ie with the company owning the store (Costa, Natwest, post office) directly instead of out of date listing.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi @happytoon

Well, I did report it to the media sites about the closure, contacted Costa Coffee, marked it closed on Bing, reported it through TomTom a few times to get it to accept it though it would have been nice if you have provided the coordinates of the business instead of the report ID.

I believe they only browse the web, check the web if it still exists or not, they are not like Google or Apple or Microsoft who verify the change or through AI through the data supplier as "Sears" closed down in Canada, reject my report. They must have accepted our last report since the media sites changed it to close down, hmm very interesting though I wish they would check with the business, their ways are not acceptable.

I am not really a big fan of TomTom anymore, too many POI issues, going to switch to Bing Maps when it's on iOS/Andorid. Anyways if you have any more POI issues, please let me know the coordinates, name and source.

    Thank you

I believe that once it's set as a status of not accepted it cant' be changed, though I hope to see this POI removed on the next map update. Are all the other Costa places right now?

Thanks Shawn for your help and reports to other media.
The other Costa (newly open) is correct but was at the wrong location. I moved it and they have accepted that one.

HI HappyToon, happy to inform you that they have removed the 36 high street from the maps, and it seems the locations have been correctly marked for Costa Coffee, kindly check!

thank you for your contribution to TomTom maps!

Kindly update this post or make a new thread if you have any more poi issues!

    Thank you :)

PS: Is the Post Office / Gas station still a issue?
