TomTom Speed Camera service and the law

    https://help.tomtom.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360013899980-Légalité-du-service-Radars-TomTom

    Turkey, Switzerland, Cyprus, Macedonia
In these countries all Speed Camera warning systems are illegal. Because of this, TomTom does not offer the Speed Camera service in these countries, and users driving in these countries do not need to manually change the settings of their device.

Thanks. Yandex Navigator which is probably the biggest navigation provider in Turkey has user reported speed camera alerts which works perfectly fine. Here is their Turkish website explaining the feature https://yandex.com.tr/promo/navi/speed-camera

In Turkey it's against the law to use radar detectors in cars. There is no laws prohibiting such alerts in the apps that I could find.

So this information for Turkey doesn't seem legible to me.

    Hi @Teppka

Our information suggests that "Pursuant to the Highway Traffic Code and the Highway Traffic Regulations, manufacturing, importing or having the devices in vehicles that are used for determining the location of the devices/ systems which identify any speed limit breaches or that are warning the driver regarding these devices/ systems, are prohibited." We didn't receive any information that the law changed but the team is looking into this. I'll post back here once I know more.

    Best, lampard

Hi @lampard, AmiGo app is not a device that's imported, it's an app for a smartphone. But if you'd want to look at devices here is Garmin Tandem sold by official Garmin distributor in Turkey. Here is the link to the product page: https://www.baytekin.com.tr/urun/arac-kamerasi/garmin-dash-cam-tandem

Using Garmin Drive app officially downloaded form Turkish Play Store I update speed cameras for Turkey and receive voice notifications from my tandem camera.

As I mentioned before Yandex, which has registered office in Turkey have their Yandex Navigation map with speed cam alerts.

Sygic Navigation app also offers live traffic and speed camera alerts (as premium paid service). Apparently there are some regulations here which target specifically TomTom.

As far as I know only police speed radar car detectors are prohibited.

Though it's upto you entirely whether you plan to use your service in Turkey or not. I stopped using tomtom in favor of Google maps and Yandex anyways.

    Good luck.
