High data usage while using GO Navigation app

Does anyone else feel the data usage on AA or standalone considerably higher than the estimate TomTom claim (I've used 30mb after 3 hours )

    It's definitely TomTom according to the data usage on my device

    Hi @daydotz, I have checked data consumption while simulating driving on a route after 1 hr.

    According to my measurements - when using the app only on Android Auto head unit - data consumption was 4.56 MB.

    During this 1 hr of simulation, distance driven was 86 km, meaning that data consumption was around 53 kB / 1 km.

    Could you please provide reference to following:
    the estimate TomTom claim

    Hi @daydotz, could you also provide more information about conditions when you observed high data usage?
    How long was the route, how long did you drive?

    We are constantly monitoring data consumption for user sessions. I can see that data consumption for 1 km driven is between 25 and 150 kB / 1 km in our dashboards.

    What measures did you take to ensure that no system processes or apps other than TomTom were receiving data?

    170 miles is around 274 km, which gives 274 * 53 kB = 14.5 MB if you take into account:
    • that data usage relation to distance is linear
    • that my measurements were correct and we consume around 53 kB per 1 km

    My data counter shows TomTom specifically for a app with offline maps it's data usage should be next to nothing

    I've been playing with Waze today same journey no offline maps and that used 14mb

    If that's within your operating parameters it's quite scary how much data your service requires

    Hi @daydotz , if available data plan is scarce, I recommend using the app with disabled traffic and online routing/search.
