The device is constantly turning itself off while in use. I have checked the battery charge level, it is down to 23%

Your Gps must be permanently connected
I would be surprised if the battery is already dead

No longer under warranty. Battery will not charge past 23%0

I did not find a corresponding battery or demo for disassembly

I think it needs to be recalibrated
for this you have to open the gps disconnect the battery without the
remove and reconnect it0 -

The Previous NAV4 and Latest (NAV5 Wi-Fi) devices are quite power hungry and can go into "Power saving mode" if not supplied with enough power
