Hi All,
Just about to return this to Amazon, but before I do thought I would ask if anyone has come across this issue.
Plug in the TomTom into cigarette socket using supplied adapter and cable, so I know the current is enough.
Display is really bordeline dim. You can see it in usualy overcast British day, but heaven help you when you get the slightest amount of sun. Brightness is at 100%.
I would go as far as to say the TomTom is 50% dimmer than the built in satnav. Is this usual? Should I replace it? or just get a refund?

Firstly... Charge the device for at least 3 hours using something like a Smartphone charger and the Tomtom lead....

    Check... Tap 4Dot (.... Menu) --> Setting --> Appearance --> Display --> Brightness....
    Day brightness 100%
    Night brightness 10%

Tap the 4Dot (.... Menu) button... On the Menu Screen top right is a battery status Icon
Charging... Displays when Connected to a Power supply
Full Charge... Displays when Connected or Not Connected Power supply
Half Charge... Displays when NOT Connected Power supply
Low Battery... Displays when NOT Connected Power supply
One of the worst things you can do to a Lithium battery is to run it flat, so at a certain percentage of discharge (Unspecified)... The device will go into 'Power Saving Mode' the screen will dull, and the device will eventually turn itself off (Not Sleep)

There is a Battery Status display available on the devices Status Screen
Press and hold the on/off button until you hear a drum-roll sound.... Continue to hold the on/off button until the Black & White Status screen is shown.....
If you are worrying about the device charging, you might consider one of these gadgets

Simply plug the device into the USB socket and plug your lead into the USB Doctor, the device will display the Voltage and Power being used by your various USB devices
I have one of each type they're only peanuts to buy, search Amazon/eBay for USB Doctor....

PS... The screen Auto dims when updating the device....

Have you changed the Day/Night setting during the hours of darkness ???
There's an anomaly in the Day/Night switching, where if you change the setting during the hours of darkness to off, the switching to Daytime Map colours never happens....

During the Daytime hours the Night colours are OFF therefore the Icon is slashed through

    Day/Night auto settings....
Tap the 4Dot (.... Menu) --> Settings --> Appearance --> Display... Switch to night colours when dark (Default ON)
