Hello, my vehicle is a 2020 Ford with SYNC 3 6.5" screen and it supports SDL app connections. When I click on the TomTom app in the apps menu of the system, it just stays on the "waiting for connection" screen and it stays there until I click cancel. Is this because the app only supports Toyota vehicles? It it only supports select vehicles, you should not market it as an SDL connection, even if it is, because it won't support the majority of other vehicles on the road.

Tomtom says it does support SDL connections.

I don't see this section about SDL under
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomtom.gplay.navapp
I see it under
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomtom.gplay.navapp.nds
which is correct but that is different app released in limited number of countries.
Do you mind sharing country of your play store? Maybe it's some problem with listing localization.
So to answer your question: GO Navigation app on Android doesn't support SDL connection.
Personally I would love to see it added since SDL is much less restrictive UI-wise than incoming Android Auto.

Ah, yes, I thought TomTom didn't add it to the description since they thought people would care more about AA than SDL. Will the feature work on SDL or will it be coming? I also agree, I would like SDL connection better since it doesn't take away the entire system.0 -
Both AA and Smart Device Link are protocols/frameworks for connecting mobile apps to infotainment systems. But they are separate and given infotainment system has to explicitly state that they support each one. Though I expect your 2020 Ford does support both.
You can read more here how SDL compares to AA or Mirrorlink

Yes, I know it both supports Android Auto and SDL, but Ford brands it as "Applink".1
