No service? Waiting for device.

I have downloaded updates to the device and My Drive Connect (MDC) says "waiting for device." And keeps waiting forever.
The Go500 shows "connected to computer"; in the menu TomTom Services it shows "My Drive unavailable." I go into that menu item and it wants a login. I enter the login details and it returns "Oops we are having trouble accessing TomTom services. Please try again later."
No matter how many times I login this never changes and MDC is still saying "waiting for device" after several hours.
I have updated the driver as per instructions and no change.
In the past there were no problems, this happened right after the latest forced update of My Drive Connect. It might be an MDC or a Go 500 issue. Any ideas would be very welcome.
