update TomTom software smart car 2016 Canada

Any tips would be very much appreciated. My 2016 smart car needs a software update and I have watched YouTube videos and read forums and nothing seems to work. I tried loading software onto a USB and plugging it into the car. The car recognized it needed a software update... then after the software update was "complete" an error message stated "update failed". I am now trying to take the SD card out of the car and using SmartMediaConnect app and in the app it has an error message "our servers are very busy right now" -- for the last two days!!! Am starting to think it is not the servers... but my SD card won't link to anything???? Any tips please help! My car states the wrong time and I cannot change it within tomom (it's greyed out) unless I apparently do a software update. help!!!
